Helen Isabel DAVIDSON, 95, a resident of the Ritz Lutheran Villa, Mitchell passed away at her residence on Monday, June 6, 2005. Dear sister of Anna DAVIDSON of Mitchell; dear sister-in-law of Lillian DAVIDSON of Brockville and Daphne DAVIDSON of Winnipeg dear aunt of Al JOHNSON of Burlington, Karen SMITH of Kingston, Lynn GLEASON and husband Dennis of Brockville, John LAMONT and wife Kathy of Windsor, Bill DAVIDSON and wife Ingrid of Cobourg, Joy DAVIDSON of Thornhill and their families. Predeceased by her parents William and Janet (BARLEY) DAVIDSON and brothers Jack DAVIDSON (1981,) Bruce DAVIDSON (2005) and a niece Jacquie JOHNSON (2005.) Helen was a primary grade one teacher at Mitchell Public School for 44 years and was a life long member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Mitchell. She was an accomplished pianist, enjoyed travel and had been a member of the Mitchell Golf Club for a number of years. Friends will be received at the Lockhart Funeral Home, 109 Montreal Street, Mitchell, on Wednesday 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday from 1: 00 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 2: 00 p.m. with Reverend Peter BUSH officiating. Mother of Fred KELSO and his wife Pat of Saint Thomas, Ruth Anne VICKERS and her husband Carden of R.R.#5, Mildmay, and Jane McGUGAN (late Gary) of Saint Thomas. Sister of Irene ROBINSON of Prescott. Also survived by 9 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers, Jack and George DENT and sisters, Margaret SHEPHARD and Frances HUNT. Born in Russeldale, Ontario, November 21, 1910, the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (GLEASON) DENT. A Registered Nurse, she was a 1932 graduate of the Guelph General Hospital. Mrs. KELSO was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Saint Thomas. PIERS, Desmond William, C.M., D.S.C., C.D., L.O.N., K.C.L.J., M.M.L.J., Rear-Admiral Royal Canadian Navy, (Ret'd).
It is with deep sadness that the Piers family announce the death of Desmond William PIERS on November 1, 2005. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on June 12, 1913, he was the son of the late William Harrington PIERS and the late Dr. Florence Maud (O'DONNELL) PIERS, and a member of one of the City's founding families. Educated at the Halifax County Academy and the Royal Military College of Canada, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1932 as the first ex-Cadet of R.M.C. to enter that service. During his span of thirty-five years' naval service he advanced to the rank of Rear Admiral before taking voluntary retirement in 1967. Admiral PIERS is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Janet (MacNEILL) daughter, Anne BAKER; grand_sons Hugh (Anne McDONOUGH;) Philip (Jeanetta HOFFMAN;) and Piers (Katherine GLEASON;) great grandchildren, Justin, Jamie, Erin, Jillian, Adrienne and Isabella Janet; brother, Walter Harrington PIERS, and many special nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Virginia FINCH- NOYES. His remains are entrusted to Davis Funeral Home, Chester, Nova Scotia 902-275-3811. Alice was also gifted at playing piano, organ and accordion by ear. During World War 2 she pastored a three-point charge in the Maritimes. O'CONNOR, Father Desmond
Father Desmond O'Connor, age 70 passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Mother House in North Bay on Thursday, December 1st, 2005 surrounded by members of his loving family and Sisters of St. Joseph. Father O'CONNOR fought a very courageous battle with a rather aggressive cancer but he lived life to the fullest until the very end. Father O'CONNOR was born in Killaloe on February 14th, 1935. He attended St. Augustine's Seminary from 1954 until his ordination on May 11th, 1961. He was Parish Priest at Nativity Parish in Timmins from 1961 to 1971, at Holy Family Parish in Englehart from 1971 to 1973, at Our Mother of Perpetual Help in New Liskeard from 1972 to 1973, at Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Kirkland Lake from 1973 to 1981 and returned to Nativity Parish in Timmins from 1981 to 1994. Father Des was on sabbatical for 1994-1995 and then returned to Kirkland Lake and Englehart from 1995 until his retirement in June 2005. Father O'CONNOR was also an Associate of the Grey Sisters of Pembroke. Father O'CONNOR was predeceased by his brother Terence on June 3rd, 1962 his father Patrick on March 3rd, 1964 and his mother Ethel (née SULLIVAN) on March 24th, 1995. He is survived by his sister Margaret and husband Jim GLEASON of North Bay, brother Kevin and wife Maureen of Killaloe, sister Phyllis of North Bay (a Sister of St. Joseph), sister Colleen and husband Robert DODGE of New Liskeard, brother Jack and wife Patricia of Lac Labiche, Alberta. He will be sadly missed by his family, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and many Friends. Born November 23, 1923. Passed away at the age of 81 on January 11, 2005 at the William Osler Health Centre, Etobicoke Campus. Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Ross William George JEFFRIES, 1996, and her loving parents Beatrice May (née GLEDHILL,) 1988, and John William MARTIN, 1972. She is survived by her only sister Margaret Louise MILLER of Mississauga and cousins in Saint Thomas and Yorkshire, England. Friends will be received at the Ogden Funeral Home (St. Clair Chapel), 646 St. Clair Ave. W. (west of Batburst St.) on Sunday, January 16 from 12: 30-2 p.m. with a brief Service at 2 o'clock in the chapel. Reception to follow. Interment following cremation to be held at York Cemetery (between Senlac St. and Yonge Street, north of Sheppard Ave.) A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at the Hillcrest Christian Church. Dorothy was formerly an ordained Minister (1953), missionary and lifetime member of Hillcrest Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). In his 85th year, Frank Francis William GOULD, the beloved husband of the late Jessie Irene (nee WILKIE). Loving father of James and his wife Ellen Beth, Joan, and her husband, Howard SANDLES, Barbara and her husband Melvin COOPER, and Shirley and her husband Scott MISENER. Proud grandfather of ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Dear brother of William and his wife Anne, Mildred NOBLE, and Delores and her husband David GLEESON. Predeceased by his sister, Marie (Mrs. Kenneth McCHESNEY) and by his brother, Clarence. Frank will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews. Frank was a former Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus. Frank will be remembered for his commitment to many groups like ARC Industries.
