JORDAN,
Margery
Elizabeth (née
GERALD)
Passed away October 5th, 2005 after a tragic fall at the age
of 86 years. Born September 20th, 1919 in Fredericton, New Brunswick
to William Thomas and Margery Elizabeth
GERALD.
She is survived
by her devoted husband Jim, and her loving family: son Dennis
JORDAN his wife
Cathy in Huntsville Ontario, son Jamie
JORDAN
and wife Meg in Huntsville and daughter Mary
JORDAN and her husband
Carl LAVOIE of Toronto, Ontario, Sister Muriel
LESSMANN and brother
Dick GERALD both in Toronto and by her admiring grandchildren
who loved her so much; Dennis, Patrick, Andrew, Megan, Benjamie,
Sarah and Jordan who were all a source of great joy and comfort
to her through the years. Margery heard the tales of the loss
of members of her family during World War I. She endured Rheumatic
Fever twice, Polio once, the Depression and World War 2. She
attended St. Clement's school and graduated from Northern Secondary
in Toronto where she met Jim. She went on to study art at the
Ontario College of Art and was a student of Arthur Lismer, one
of the Group of Seven. She and Jim with young Denny headed north
to found Ski Jump Inn and Jorlea Trading Post. It took 5 hours
to drive from Toronto to Huntsville in those days. The first
summer the 3 of them lived in a tent while more permanent buildings
were being constructed. That winter she lived in a log cabin
built from trees that grew on their land. They seemed to be the
last of the pioneers. She successfully ran the store and helped
in the running of the Inn for over 30 years while raising her
family. She continued her art leaving her family and Friends
with a rich heritage of images connected to their personal histories.
She also contributed to the culture of Huntsville by designing
and painting the backdrops which formed the sets of many a magnificent
Rotary Theatre production. Margery was the recipient of Rotary's
highest honour, the Paul Harris Fellowship award for this considerable
contribution. She was a long time volunteer with the Huntsville
Hospital Auxiliary. Margery worked with stroke victims helping
them to learn to speak again. She was a wonderful wife to Jim
who is stricken with sadness because of her unexpected death.
She built a wonderful extended family who remain close and loving
in large part due to her example. Margery will be remembered
for her humour, her astounding graciousness in the face of any
difficulty, her art and her deep love of life and family. In
lieu of flowers Margery would want donations to be made to the
Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada, 2345 Yonge St. Toronto,
Ontario or call (416) 488-0030. Visitation will be held at Mitchell's
Funeral Home 15 High Street in Huntsville on Friday October 7th
from 4 p.m. until 6: 30 p.m. The Funeral will be held at All Saints'
Anglican Church, 30 High St. Huntsville, Ontario at 11 a.m. on
Saturday, October 8th.
