BIRD, Jessie (née FLETT) (1912-2004)
Nancy and Susan announce with regret the death of their mother in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia on Thursday December 30, 2004. "Art is long, life is short' Dad wrote on the chimney of one of the houses they built, and music education was the driving force of their life together. Certainly, Jessie's support for Laughton's enthusiasm was absolute.
She will be remembered for her love of politics, of reading (Tom Harpur, Robertson Davies, E.B. White, always with copious notes in the margins!), her support for art and artists in Annapolis, being a founding member of the arts council; and for her love of family: her parents Annie and William FLETT, her sister Edna, her brothers Jim and George, and of course her beloved grand_son Marc.
Friends who wish to do so may contribute to an arts scholarship to be established in memory of Jessie and Laughton, bobunger@hotmail.com. Jessie's family plans a celebration at home in Port Royal in their honour during the summer of 2005. She died at peace in her sleep and she lived with grace.

Passed away at Central Park Lodge, - Thorncliffe on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at the age of 84. Predeceased by her parents Eloise and Walter Ernest (Pete) FLETT, brother Peter, sister Louise, son Philip Gordon Charles CLARK and her husband (Tim) Gordon Charles Lloyd CLARK. Joan leaves her sister Avro OLIVE, brother John FLETT (Priscilla) daughter Christine Ann FEATHERSTONE (Francois TREMBLAY) and granddaughters Miranda Laurine and Courtney Louise KIRBY. Joan was an outspoken political debater, a skilled amateur plumber, an accomplished fisher-woman, a devoted Argos fan and courageous in body and spirit until the end. As per her wishes, she was cremated and a private family service will follow at a later date. The family will receive Friends at the Trull "North Toronto" Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 2704 Yonge Street (5 blocks south of Lawrence Avenue) on Friday, February 11th, 7-9 p.m. and Saturday, February 12th, 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Armour Heights Presbyterian Church, 105 Wilson Avenue, Toronto, Ontario M5M 2Z9.

Cherished father of Dennis John HUNTER and his wife Margaret and Deborah "Debbie" E. RAE, and her husband Wayne. Proud grandfather of Ryan, Christy and Melissa RAE, and Chelsey and Emily HUNTER. SMYTH, Jack Norman
Jack Norman SMYTH was born on August 17, 1933 in Port Burwell and lived there all his life. He was the owner and operator of Port Burwell Welding and served as the Reeve of Port Burwell for 7 years and also served on town council. Jack passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2005 at the London Health Sciences Trauma Unit, South Street Campus as the result of an automobile accident and stroke.
Jack was the son of the late Floyd and Irene (FLEUELLING) SMYTH. He is survived by his wife and best friend for 41 years, Irene (BERDAN) SMYTH. Loving step-father of Karen ALWARD and her husband Murray and Murray WISSON and his wife Linda. Cherished grandfather of Tom ALWARD and Donna, Paul ALWARD and Lisa, Melissa CAIN and Bob, Stephanie WISSON and Nadine BUTLER and Shaun. Papa Jack will be greatly missed by his 5 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Bud SMYTH and Kay, Marguerite FOLOW, Leta TOWNSEND, Myrtle BARTOLACCI and Donna DOUCETTE and Frank. Cremation has taken place. Dear father of Alice and her husband Albert FLEURKENS of Sweaburg, Elsina REDDEN of Elmwood, Marianne HAANDRIKMAN of Woodstock, John HAANDRIKMAN of Windsor, and Diana and her husband Christopher HOOPER of Sweaburg. Dear grandfather (Opa) of David FLEURKENS, Michael FLEURKENS and his wife Jessica; Barbara, Lee-Ann and Andrew REDDEN; Andrea MUI; Simon, Sydney and Spencer HOOPER. Survived by his sister Trientje KIERS- HAANDRIKMAN of the Netherlands, and predeceased by his brothers Geert, Hendrik and Jan of the Netherlands and his sister-in-law Ina HEIMBECKER of Canada. Jans and his wife and children came to Canada in 1969. An accomplished baker, he won several awards for his baking. He loved going for walks with his family, enjoyed nature and was an avid birdwatcher, gardener and amateur inventor. Dear brother of Dorothy FLEXEN and Roy NICHOLS (Joan,) all of Sarnia. Predeceased by 3 brothers Wilfred, Lloyd and Kenneth.
