Owen Sound trucker involved in fatal crash
Transport truck runs into dump truck
The Canadian Press, Page A2
Burlington, Ontario - A Waterdown, Ontario, man is dead after
a crash that spilled animal waste across Highway 6 and closed
sections of the road for most of Thursday.
Paul McARTHUR, 38, died instantly when a transport truck collided
with a dump truck at about 2 a.m., police said.
Cleanup crews spent more than 15 hours removing animal matter
from the heavily travelled road, which didn't fully reopen until 4: 45 p.m.
"It is just a mess," provincial police Insp. Robin
McELARY-
DOWNER
said after leaving the scene.
The dump truck was travelling north on Highway 6 when it ran
out of gas on a hill south of Highway 5,
McELARY-
DOWNER said.
A mobile truck service run by
McARTHUR arrived to help the truck
stranded in the right lane.
McARTHUR was looking at the engine and had just told the driver
to try the ignition when a tractor-trailer slammed into the back
of the dump truck, killing
McARTHUR,
McELARY-
DOWNER said.
The driver of the dump truck, Mike
NINIJOHN, 22, of Waterdown,
suffered minor injuries that didn't require medical attention.
The transport truck driver, John
THOMPSON/THOMSON/TOMPSON/TOMSON, 66, of Owen Sound
also suffered minor injuries.
McELARY-
DOWNER said investigators are still trying to determine
if the dump truck had its caution lights on and why the transport
truck didn't see it.
No charges have been laid, but the investigation is continuing.

McLELLAN,
Angus
Ronald
Born April 18, 1924 in Glasgow, Scotland. Died March 1st, 2005
in Victoria, British Columbia after an eight year struggle with
the effects of a stroke. Only child of the late Helen Stewart
and Angus McLELLAN
Sr.
The family immigrated to Toronto when
Angus was a child. He grew up in East End Toronto. Most beloved
husband of Patricia. Also survived by Pat's brother Brian
DOWNES,
his wife Jenny and their children Sam and Lucy in England; cousin
Archie McGUGAN and Elizabeth in Victoria, cousins in Scotland
and Pat's extended family of Aunts and cousins in England, Toronto
and India.
To correct a stammer (that's another story!), Angus applied to
and was accepted by at the Lorne Greene Academy of Radio Arts
in Toronto. He was an early graduate. He became head Writer for
Greene's daily newscasts on
CKEY when it was the #1 station in
Toronto. After
CKEY,
Angus was one of the founders of the television
station in North Bay, Ontario
In the mid-'50's Angus moved to Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Radio News in Toronto. He had found his niche in broadcasting!
He originated Sunday Morning Magazine and The World At Six (and
Eight) and Radio News' national coverage of many federal elections.
He also did a stint as Executive Producer of Specials for Canadian
Broadcasting Corporation television News, responsible at the
time for Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's Watergate coverage.
He was briefly Executive Producer of W5 for CTV. Radio remained
his real love and he returned to it for the rest of his working
life in Toronto until he and Pat moved to Victoria in 1982.
He was a very strong supporter of public broadcasting and of
equality and social justice for all. He considered his documentary
on the American singer Paul Robeson one of the highlights of
his career along with his two-hour documentary and analysis at
the end of the Viet Nam war.
No service and no flowers by Angus's very specific request. Donations

John "

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing
of Larry at his home in Orillia. Larry was born in Toronto April
21, 1960 and lived most of his life here, having moved to Orillia

by his counselor days at Columbus Boys Camp, his "European jaunt"
with brother Dan in the '80's and his Hawaiian honeymoon. Billiards
and golf were his passions and he was a proud Canadian Legion
member. Larry enjoyed his printing career which was unfortunately
cut short by his 1990 accident. Yet he never lost his interest
in the industry and he loved to talk (in great detail!) about
his experiences. Beloved
