Born March 15, 1922 in Fort William. Died peacefully June 17, 2005, at Bridgepoint Health, Toronto. Predeceased by her husband Ross MARTIN. Sadly missed by daughters Almeda WALLBRIDGE (James,) Timmins, Donalda DEAS, Qualicum Beach, Bobbi MARTIN- HAW (David), Hastings, grandchildren Emily, Isaac, Jimmy, Tyler, Kaitlyn, Sadie, and Luke, and great-grandchildren Tatyana and Quinti. Ozzie was a determined mother, world traveller, champion speedskater, and something of a private detective. She fought non-hodgkins lymphoma with grit and she died with grace and dignity. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Canadian Speedskating Association. (January 11, 1925-October 8, 2005)
Peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hamilton on Saturday, October 8, 2005 in his 81st year. Predeceased by his beloved son Allan Harvey LANCTOT (Arlene) and loving father of Gloria DEASE, Kathryn WILEY (Brian) and Anne COSTIE (Mark.) Dear friend of their mother, Frances LANCTOT, and of his wife Janine MORIN, currently residing in Montreal. Proud grandfather of Michelle (Peter), LeeAnne (Mike), Tracey (Kevin), Allan Jr., Kristie (Jason), Mark, Tara (Chris), Brian, Stephen and nine beautiful greatgrandchildren. Also sadly missed by his sister Laurette ROUSSEAU of Montreal, his nieces and nephews and his Friends at the Residences on Augusta. Harvey retired from the CUMIS Group in 1990 where he served as President and Chief Executive Officer. He chose to make credit unionism a life long commitment when in 1945 he joined Windsor Credit Union in Montreal. He served as Managing Director of the Quebec Credit Union League from 1953 to 1956 and during that period organized more that 125 credit unions and caisses populaires. He devoted 34 years of his life to the CUMIS Group, since joining its forer unner, the CUNA Mutual Insurance Society in 1956. His aspirations and vision led to the for mation of the CUMIS Life Insurance Company and later the CUMIS General Insurance Company, The CUMIS Group Limited and Canadian Northern Shield Insurance Company. In addition to his full time career with the CUMIS Group he demonstrated extraordinary leadership and diplomacy while serving on the boards of directors of the Canadian Co-operative Credit Society, Canadian Co-operative Association, Co-operative Trust Company of Canada and Co-operators Data Services Limited. He demonstrated a true philanthropic concern for his fellow citizens and for his community at large, having served as an active director on the boards of Big Brothers Association of Hamilton, St. Joseph's Villa of Dundas, the Hamilton and District Chamber of Commerce, St. Elizabeth's Nursing Home in Hamilton, the Hamilton and District Social Planning and Research Council, the Rotary Club of Hamilton, Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital Foundation, Big Brothers of Canada, president of the United Way of Canada, president of the Hamilton & District United Appeal, president of the Catholic Youth Organization Diocese of Hamilton, chairman of the Hamilton-Wentworth District Health Council and upon his retirement from the CUMIS Group was recognized with a lifetime appointment as Director Emeritus of all the CUMIS Group of companies. At Dad's request, private cremation has taken place. A Service of Remembrance will be held at Smith's Funeral Home, 1167 Guelph Line, (one stoplight north of Queen Elizabeth Way) Burlington (905-6323333) on Saturday, October 15, 2005, at 11 a.m. Reception to follow at CUMIS, 151 North Service Road, Burlington. Finally at peace at St. Catharines General Hospital, March 29, 2005, in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of Susan (recently deceased). Loving father of Carolyn and her husband Rick, Susan and her husband Mike, Diane and her husband Dick, Bill and his wife Lisa, Bob and his wife Louise, Susanne and her husband Jim, Doug and his wife Linda. Dear grandfather of several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Frank. A veteran of World War 2, Staff Sgt. Colin ARGYLE served five years overseas. Upon returning to Toronto in 1945, Colin completed a course at Ryerson and began a custom bookbinding business with his brother-in-law and life long friend Bill DEASON (deceased.) Working until he was 80 years young, his clients still miss his work today. Colin maintained his dignity and sense of humour to the end and will be missed by all who knew him. Surrounded by her family Wednesday April 13, 2005, Margaret (Moppy) SMITH, in her 87th year, passed away at London Health Sciences Centre University Hospital. Margaret was received in Heaven by her former husband Ted, her first born child Carolyn, former wife of Donald DONOHUE of Calgary, her sister Agnes FORD and brothers Harold and Bill MATTHEWS of Windsor. Margaret was a dear mother to Beverly MAXWELL and her husband Les of Vancouver, Virginia GOLDING of Vancouver, Christine FOERSTER of London, Ted SMITH and his wife Kim of London, Elizabeth DEAVILLE and her husband Brian of London, and Debra LEVESQUE and her husband Michael of Colfax, California. Also surviving Margaret are her many nieces and nephews and her eight grandchildren: Sean, Scott, Megan, Trevor, Jessica, Jeremy, Bridget and Jacob. Margaret will be greatly missed by all, there simply will be no other like our 'Moppy'. A special thanks to the phenomenal doctors and nurses of the Orthopedic floor at University Hospital. Visitors will be received at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, on Monday morning from 10-12 noon when the funeral service will be held.
