CURRY,
John▼
In loving memory of a husband, father and grandfather, John
CURRY,
passed away 2 years ago February 18, 2003.
Come, dry your tears, smile again, love,
I'm only a whisper away,
Near in the dusk of the evening,
Just out of sight through the day
Watching you walking and sleeping,
Hearing each prayer that you pray,
Sending my love to surround you,
I'm only a whisper away.
Come, dry your tears, smile again, love,
Remember the good times we've known,
Cherish thejoy we discovered --
Love that was planted and grown.
Your road may seem lonely ahead, love,
And distant horizons look grey,
You won't be walking alone, dear,
I'm only a whisper away.

wife, Karen.
It is a year ago today, that an angel came and took you away,
There is not a day that goes by, that we don't sit and wonder
why,
Why that angel had to take you away, when the Lord he could have
let you stay,
Day by day we hold you close, sharing the memories that mean
the most,
Sadly missed along the way, quietly remembered ever day,
Deep in our hearts your memory is kept, to love, to cherish and
never forget.

To bring you home again.
No farewell words were spoken,

He had a brief job with the T. Eaton Co. and then landed the
job he wanted, to teach. He became a teacher at Upper Canada
College and was there from 1925-1965. Alan was a most admired
and respected teacher. He loved the challenge of teaching Mathematics
and was at his best when dealing with those who found the subject
difficult. He was the head of the Mathematics Department for
30 years. Upper Canada College's property in Norval was a great
love of Alan's and he personally supervised and assisted with
the planting of thousands of trees there, results of his efforts
are remembered as the 'Harris Arboretum'. After his wife's death
Alan moved to his property in Caledon with his dog Rheba. He
maintained a first-rate vegetable garden and wonderful flowerbeds.
He also spent many years reforesting this property. He fed countless
birds each winter and took great joy in his last years observing
them with his binoculars on the bird feeder outside his living
room. Much to the delight of many visitors Alan had the chickadees
feeding from their hands. Alan had wonderful loving care over

LEMMON,
Marguerite (née
CURTIS) (April 16, 1921-August 25, 2005)
Mom's gentle but strong spirit courageously endured an 18-year
struggle with Alzheimer's. Facing her illness with dignity and
strength, she showered family and fellow residents with kind
gestures, loving words, and laughter. Her innate graciousness
and beauty prevailed to her final moments. Although Mom worked
for years in the retail business, her main joy and focus was
her family. How blessed we were to have had her as a wife (Randal,
Edgar), a mother (Diana, Sherry, Barbie, Mary Lynn), a sister
(Victor and Pauline), a grandmother (Randal, Keleigh, Abraham,
Joshua, Jason), and great-grandmother (Owen, Colt, Callum). Her
whistling song has stopped but her melody will forever remain
with us. Words fail to describe our gratitude to Mom's caregiver,
Beth RODRIGO, who selflessly and lovingly provided Mom the best
of care for 8 years. The Alzheimer Society would appreciate donations

Special thanks go to Deborah
HAMILTON who for so long has been a reliable and constant presence
in his life. Also thanks to the "Merry Wives of Allison Road"
who brought much fun and caring to his final years.
Born in Stogumber, Somerset, on September 4, 1906, he was raised
as a "prairie boy" in Saskatchewan and, after having studied
law at the University of Saskatchewan, went to Oxford University
as a Rhodes Scholar. Returning to Canada, he practised law in
Regina, before becoming a professor of law at Dalhousie University
from 1934-1945. Responding to the wish of the Bar of British
Columbia that a law school be established in the province, the
University of British Columbia appointed him the founding dean
of the new law school.
Remaining active at the law school right up to his death, he
has influenced the lives and careers of some of Canada's top
judges, many of its distinguished teachers and thousands of its
practising lawyers. At the international level, he was a delegate
to four Commonwealth Education Conferences resulting in the creation
of the Commonwealth Scholarships, served as a special advisor
to the Government of Canada at the United Nations Convention
on the Law of the Sea and represented the country at two United
Nations Law of the Sea conferences.
Some of his other accomplishments, of which he was particularly
proud, were having initiated the first program of public health
insurance as a student at the University of Saskatchewan, having
drafted the Farmers' Creditors Arrangement Act which saved the
family farms of Dirty Thirties from rogue creditors, having been
a part of the first post-war committee to revise Canadian competition
policy, having encouraged and actively overseen the graduation
of the first aboriginal Canadian from a law school in Canada,
having been a member of the first federal electoral boundaries
commission, having been the labour arbitrator who kept the Empress
Hotel open in 1958, having been the one in 1953 to suggest naming
the Queen Elizabeth Islands in order to reinforce Canada's Arctic
claims, having been the one in 1963 to name Simon Fraser University,
having helped to establish and draft the constitution of the
Association of Universities and Colleagues of Canada (A.U.C.C.)
and the Council of Canadian Law Deans. On a personal level, he
spoke passionately of his love for the contemplative art of fly
fishing.
He received many awards over his lifetime, from the Governor-General's
Bronze Medal at the age of 18, to honorary degrees from several
Canadian universities, to being the first recipient of the Law
Society of British Columbia Award in 1986, to being named to
the Order of British Columbia in 1995, and to the Order of Canada
in 2004.
A funeral service will be held at St. Anselm's Anglican Church,
5210 University Boulevard, Vancouver, at 2: 00 p.m. on Wednesday,
November 2, 2005. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to either the Doris Curtis Memorial Scholarship or
the George F. Curtis Student Endowment Fund, University of British
Columbia Faculty of Law, 1822 East Mall, Vancouver, British Columbia
