Peacefully at London Health Sciences Centre, University Campus on Thursday, June 2, 2005, Frances Evelyn (COCHRANE) MARDLIN of London and formerly of London Twp. in her 90th year. Beloved wife of the late John Wesley MARDLIN (1989) for 50 years. Cherished mother of Evelyn and Bill CROSSAN of British Columbia, Hazel and Wayne MATTHEWS of London, Marlene and John BARNES of Florida, Jack and Wilda MARDLIN of London. Loving and proud grandmother of Brad and Donna, Bart and Linnea; Kelly, Christopher and Robin, Kevin; Sean; John and Martina. Great grandmother of Kelsey and Jared; Erica and Noah. Predeceased by her parents William and Isabelle COCHRANE, her brother Mervin COCHRANE and sisters Grace OLIVER and Mary PRINGLE. Frances will be sadly missed by her dear friend Marianne HOARE.
Early in her career she taught in rural schools in Middlesex County and later on, in special education for the London Board of Education. After retirement, she spent many years as a volunteer at Lucan Public School. She was also a lifetime member of Bryanston United Church. Frances was passionate about her faith, family, Friends and all children. She always had time to spend with a child. She will be sadly missed and remembered by many Friends for her strength and generosity, passionate convictions, sense of humour and abiding love. Friends may call to the C. Haskett and Son, 223 Main Street, Lucan on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where the funeral service will be held on Monday, June 6, 2005 at 11 a.m. with Mr. Peter CARBERRY officiating. Passed away, July 13th, 2005, at her residence in London, in her 97th year. She was predeceased by many of her family including her beloved husband Jack Clayton CROSSLEY (Owen Sound) and son William John Clayton CROSSLEY (Calgary). Throughout her life, Evelyn touched many lives. In 1959, she took over the family business, Northern Transport, which she managed successfully through the sixties and into the seventies. Her true joy, however, was doing volunteer work in the community. She was an active member of St. George's Anglican Church in Owen Sound and particularly enjoyed being on the Chancel Guild. In the community, she took great pleasure in serving Meals On Wheels and was a proud member of the local Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire. She was a dedicated mother and a truly admired and cherished Aunt Ev. She will be remembered for her courage and dignity, her sense of humour, her generous smile, and her remarkable memory for people, places and cards (mostly at the bridge table). Evelyn is survived by her daughters Gail McNEILL (Windsor) and Linda CROSSLEY- HAUCH, son-in-law Kuyler HAUCH (London) and daughter-in-law Linda CROSSLEY (Calgary.) She is also survived by eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and her nieces Frances WALSH (Markdale,) Sheila HOMENIUK (Calgary), and Eleanor Crossley DUNLOP and her husband Wayne (Sauble Beach). 71, of Halifax, passed away after a lengthy illness February 28, 2005 at the QE II Health Sciences Centre. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Earl (Floyd) and Cora (BILLARD) BANGAY. Loving mother of Susan and Stephen CROSSMAN. Sister to Robert (Bob) BANGAY and Nancy PAUZÉ. She will be sadly missed by all whose lives she touched, especially by her daughter and granddaughter, Melissa FISHMAN of Toronto, whom she adored but never got the chance to meet. No visitation by request. A service will be held in the chapel of J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax and in Toronto, at a later date. Passed away suddenly, at home, May 10th, 2005. Bob was born in Victoria August 13, 1943, where he received his education at Sir James Douglas, Central and Vic High Schools. Predeceased by his brother Steve and his father Bill. He will be lovingly remembered by his mother Win, his sisters Joan, Jean and Cathy, Aunty Marge, nephews and nieces and former long-time companion Shirley BELL. He moved to Toronto in 1967 to pursue his teaching career at the University of Toronto, City of York (Vaughan Road Collegiate, Adult Day School, and Weston Collegiate Institute). He was on the executive of the Retired Teachers of Ontario Mid-Island Branch, 2000 to 2003. Bob retired back to Vancouver Island in 1999, living in Qualicum Beach, Nanaimo and most recently Victoria. He volunteered at Milner Gardens and Woodland in Qualicum Beach. Along with his love of gardening, he enjoyed entertaining with good food, and fine wine, travel, music and his dogs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of ones choice. Clara was born in Cleveland, Ohio and was a daughter of the late Michael A. and Anna Maria (DAMON) WISE. She had resided in Wallaceburg all of her maried life (76 years) and was a member of Trinity United Church, as well as a former member of the Wallaceburg Horticultural Society. Beloved wife of the late A.J. Bert CROTHERS (1967.) Dear mother of Hortense (Honey) DAWE. Loving grandmother of Penny ROOSE and Peter DRIESSEN of Port Lambton and Sandy and Peter VANDE VELDE of Wallaceburg. Great grandmother of Heather and Jeff FIELDS, Mandy ROOSE and partner Larry MARTIN and Eric VANDE VELDE. Great great grandmother of Zachary FIELDS. Predeceased by her sisters Laurie, Mary and Hortense and by her brothers Michael, Frank and Arthur. Also predeceased by a son-in-law Robert DAWE (2000) and a granddaughter LeeAnn (1964.) The late Clara F. CROTHERS rested at the Eric F. Nicholls Funeral Home, 639 Elgin Street in Wallaceburg until Monday, July 4, 2005 when funeral services were held in the chapel of the funeral home at 2 p.m. with Bonnie HARVEY, Officiant. Mrs. Barbara MYERS presided at the organ and Mrs. Lois MYERS sang "Precious Lord and Take My Hand." Pall bearers were Peter VANDE VELDE, Peter DRIESSEN, Jeff FIELDS, Larry MARTIN, Doug BABBITT and Brian BOOK. Interment was in Riverview Cemetery, Wallaceburg. Businessman born in Toronto in 1921.
After a spell in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War, he joined the family construction business. With his brothers George, James and Frank, he helped found Crothers Ltd., a Concord, Ontario-based company that sold Caterpillar construction and earth-moving equipment throughout Ontario. He worked with his brothers to establish a business that branched out into building hotels and supplying power in the Caribbean. In the early 1970s, Joseph and James CROTHERS purchased the Caterpillar dealerships for Argentina and much of the Caribbean. In 1993, the family sold Crothers Ltd. to Toromont Industries Ltd. for $60-million.
