McCARTER, William Beverley (1925-2005)
Beloved husband of the late Evelyn Stirling Maxine (CLOKIE.) Passed away peacefully April 25, 2005. Loving father of Kara (Harvey BUDD), Viva (John PAPPEL), and Dena (Joseph MONACHINO). Dear Grampers of Andrew and Cameron PAPPEL. He will be missed by his brother Ron (Marion,) sister Shirley (Bud LANGDON) and sister-in-law, Marion McCARTER (Francis CRANDELL) and all the extended families. Bev's life was filled with academic pursuits, with degrees from the University of Toronto, Cranfield (United Kingdom), Carleton, M.I.T. and Sheridan College. He was an aeronautical engineer who worked on many aircraft, including the A.V. Roe 'Arrow'. He took pleasure in his cottage, art, including painting and glassblowing, and the reading of war history. His life long passion was his wife Evie, and we take comfort in knowing that they are together again. We would like to thank The Orchards Retirement Residence, and the staff of the St. Catharines General Hospital for their dedicated care. In his 79th Year. Passed away peacefully at home on November 27, 2005 showing amazing strength and dignity during his challenge with cancer.
Walter is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 49 yrs. Janet, and their children Judith and Dr. Ross WALKER of Kingston and Stewart and Mary (GRONDIN) PRINCE of Windsor. Dear "Grandad" to Andrew, Emily and Fraser Walker and Matthew and Jack PRINCE. Brother of Dr. Jack PRINCE and wife Elaine of Windsor, and brother-in-law of Marjory and John ("Jack") CRANFORD of Toronto.
Born in Windsor, Ontario, Walter had a distinguished and successful 50 year career in law. After attending Kennedy Collegiate he graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1950, and was called to the bar in 1955 as a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School. He began his career in Windsor as an associate with the firm Fraser and McPherson. In 1965, a new partnership, McPherson, Prince and Geddes was formed. Walter was appointed Queens Council in 1969. He was the senior partner with McPherson, Prince and Geddes when the firm merged with Mousseau Deluca in 2001. That year he received the designation of "Certified Specialist in Estate and Trust Laws" by the Law Society of Upper Canada. Most recently (April 2005) he received a Doctor of Laws honorary degree from Assumption University in Windsor.
Walter has been Chairman of the Windsor Planning Board, Chairman of the Windsor- Essex County Development Commision, Chairman of the Windsor Estate Planning Commision, Chairman of the Guaranty Trust/Central Trust Advisory Board and Chairman of the Leamington Police Commision. He was also a member and past President of the Essex County Law Association, member of the Canadian Bar Association and member of the Canadian Tax Foundation. As President of the Windsor Young Men's Christian Association and Vice-President of the National Council of Young Men's Christian Association Canada, he received the Canadian Young Men's Christian Association "Fellowship of Honour Citation" as presented in Ottawa by the then Canadian Governor General in 1984. He was also a member of the Essex-Scottish Veterans Association and member/Past-President of the Windsor Club.
As devoted and dedicated Walter was to his career, he was equally, if not more devoted and loving to his family. He valued Friendships and respected colleagues. Perhaps his greatest joy was to spend time with his family and Friends at "the cottage" on Lake Huron in north Oliphant, Ontario. The multi-purpose "boathouse" was home to his summer office and woodworking shop he so treasured.
The Memorial Service will be held at Riverside United Church, 881 Glidden Avenue, Windsor, Ontario on Friday, December 2, 2005 at 11am. Reception and Visitation following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Windsor.

Florence passed away peacefully at the Rosedale Hospice in Calgary on April 20, 2005 at the age of sixty-seven. She was born in Three Hills, Alberta and moved to Drumheller at an early age. After completing her education in Drumheller, she married Ron and moved to Calgary where they raised a family of seven children. Florence was a kind and considerate person and never missed an opportunity to help or say a kind word to someone. She was always available for charity work and supportive of many worthy causes. Her courage and sense of humor, even during her failing health, was truly an inspiration to all who knew and lover her. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Ronnie and Arnold and sister Shirley BOUGHTON and is survived by sisters Joyce (Jim) KIRKEBY, Geraldine (Dennis) CLAUSEN and brother Gerald (Judy) HANSON. Florence will be sadly missed by her husband Ron, children, Michele RADICS (Chris BENCUN), Andrew, Gerry (Joelle), Peter, Joanne (Steve CRANWELL,) Matthew and Keith. Also left to mourn, her are brothers-in-law Jack (Iris) WINKELAAR and Robert BOUGHTON and many other relatives. Florence dearly loved and cherished her grandchildren Kendra, Lukas and Mikayla BENCUN, Jordan and Logan WINKELAAR and Liam CRANWELL. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Rosedale Hospice for their wonderful and compassionate care of Florence during her illness. At Beattie Haven Retirement Community, Wardsville, on Monday, April 18, 2005, John Frederick "Fred" BLACK formerly of Alvinston in his 80th year. Predeceased by his wives, Myrtle Irene (SANDS) and Donna (BROWN.) Survived by 2 stepchildren, Clara Lynn HANCOK of Chatham and Ron HANCOK and his wife Kathy of Calgary and their family, and one sister Helen MELLIS of Thunder Bay and several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Predeceased by sister, Muriel CRAVEN and one brother Leonard BLACK. Fred was a member of Hope United Church, Alvinston. At his request, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at Hope United Church, Alvinston on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at 11 a.m. Rev. Jim BREEN officiating. GRANT, Robert Vernon
Beloved husband of 64 years to Margaret Jane GRANT of Straffordville. He was predeceased by his parents Anna Eola GRANT (Nanny) and Asel Bartlett GRANT of Straffordville, also by his brother George GRANT and his wife Marion GRANT of Delhi, his brother-in-law Harold HOSHAL of Pt. Burwell, and also by his sister-in-law Pauline EMERSON of Vienna. He is survived by his loving sister-in-law Marion HOSHAL of Pt. Burwell and his brother-in-law Ken EMERSON of Vienna and by his aunt Marge GRANT of Aylmer. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and by the people of Straffordville. He was a member of the Straffordville United Church and the postmaster in Straffordville for over forty years. He never wanted to be anywhere else but Straffordville. In spite of this he served in the Canadian Army during the second world war and landed with Americans on Omaha Beach on D-day plus one. He always claimed that he was not a hero, but he is our hero. He is loved and will be very sadly missed by his children Perry GRANT and his wife Pauline of Straffordville and Elizabeth and her husband The Rev. William CRAVEN of Brampton. He is survived by his dearly loved grandchildren Daniel GRANT of Straffordville, Kerry CRAVEN of Courtice, Scott CRAVEN and Christy ARMAND of Cambridge, Kelly and Michael KAWABE of Brampton, Douglas and Brenda CRAVEN of Whitby, Suzanne CRAVEN of Toronto, Michael and Sarah CAREY and Ruth and Adam MULLIS of Ingersoll. He will be remembered and missed dearly and sadly by his great-grandchildren who like nothing better than to ride with grampa in the wagon behind his John Deere tractor; Morgaine and Grant CRAVEN; Mariko, Kimiko, Kazuya and Toshi KAWABE; Jack and Jordan CRAVEN; Lauren CRAVEN- ARMAND and Tyler ARMAND; Hannah CAREY and Robert MULLIS. Visitation will be held at the Ostrander's Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (842-5221) on Friday, September 16, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where the Funeral Service will be held on Saturday September 17, 2005 at 1 p.m. with The Reverend William CRAVEN presiding assisted by The Reverend Peter McNAUGHTON.
