Peacefully in his 81st year, in Ajax, Ontario. Beloved husband to Edna HAMILTON (née LAMOUREUX,) adored father of Carol McMILLAN, Donna WHISKIN, Tawnee BOSSOM, Teena Marie Hamilton KARSAI and Catherine COSENTINO. Brother▲ of Bernice ROBERTSON and the late Kenneth HAMILTON. Elated grandfather of ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Bruce learned to play guitar at the age of twelve and was with the Cheerio Variety Entertainers before joining the Air Force. Bruce served for three years in World War 2 as a Corporal with the Canadian Air Force. Bruce worked at Grinnells for twenty-eight years and thoroughly enjoyed his employment with Rowntree/Nestle for twelve years. Bruce had a love of planes and in his memory his collection of plane paraphernalia has been donated to The Royal Canadian Air Cadets, 151 Squadron in Oshawa, Ontario. He is survived by two sisters: Patricia (Barry) OLSON of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Anna (James) COSGROVE of Havelock, and four brothers: Morris (Bernadette) of Marmora, Doug (Eleanor) of Deloro, Keith (Yola) of Havelock, and Vincent (Joy) of Belleville. In 1952, Carl graduated from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering. He began his career with General Motors Diesel in London, Ontario, moving to Deloro Stellite before joining the Aluminum Company of Canada (Alcan) in Kingston in 1957. In 1961, he transferred to Alcan's Montreal head Office, where, over the course of 30 years, Carl earned an international reputation as a leader in his field. The family will receive Friends at the McConnell Funeral Home, Marmora from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Marmora on Wednesday, October 19th, 2005 at 10: 30 a.m. Interment Sacred Heart Cemetery. Predeceased by daughter Frances, sister Mol COSH, and niece Jane BEMI. A long time trade union member, Jim began working and organizing in the lumber camps, gold mines and packinghouse industry in British Columbia. He became Secretary of the Vancouver Labour Council and was later an elected Co-Operative Commonwealth Federation member of the British Columbia legislature before moving to the international field. In the early 50's he worked with the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions for two years in Kenya during the Mau Mau difficulties. In the late 50's he took his family to Mexico City as he worked in the union movement throughout Central and South America. He then moved to Toronto where he was the editor of the United Packinghouse Worker and continued as a labour organizer and education officer. From 1965 on he was fully involved with the development of the New Democratic Party as Secretary of the Ontario New Democratic Party. In 1975 he moved to London, England for 5 years as Counsellor (Labour) for the federal government. Upon his return to Canada, he and Ellen moved to Uxbridge and developed an organic farm and raised sheep. They moved to Thompson House in Don Mills in 2004. After a short but fierce struggle with pulmonary fibrosis, Larry died peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 10th, 2005. He was a son of the late Donald Wilfred MacHUM and Mary Gibson (MERRITT) MacHUM. He is survived by his wife, Judith BRANNEN, by four children -- Greg MacHUM (Ann) of Fredericton, Lauren COSMAN (Mike) of Saint John, Geoff MacHUM of Halifax and Grant MacHUM (Jane) of Halifax, as well as by three step children Lisa ALWARD (John BALL) of Fredericton, Peter ALWARD of Lethbridge and Gavin ALWARD (Mary) of Halifax. In addition, he is survived by 13 grandchildren (Melissa, Michael, Emily, David and Heather MacHUM, Jonathan and Justin COSMAN, Andrew and Matthew MacHUM, Henry, Alexander, Amelia and Mary MacHUM) and by five step grandchildren (Hilary, Jack and Peter BALL and Olivia and Emily ALWARD.) His sister, Kathryn GILLESPIE of Calgary, and brother, Donald (Sandy) MacHUM of Edmonton, along with five nieces and one nephew also survive. At Larry's request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A family celebration of his life will take place at a later date. His remains have been cremated and his ashes will be scattered, as he wished them to be, over the Bay of Fundy.
