the age of twelve and was with the Cheerio Variety Entertainers
before joining the Air Force. Bruce served for three years in
World War 2 as a Corporal with the Canadian Air Force. Bruce
worked at Grinnells for twenty-eight years and thoroughly enjoyed
his employment with Rowntree/Nestle for twelve years. Bruce had
a love of planes and in his memory his collection of plane paraphernalia
has been donated to The Royal Canadian Air Cadets, 151 Squadron
in Oshawa, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations to the The

He is survived by two sisters: Patricia (Barry)

British Columbia, and Anna (James)
COSGROVE of Havelock, and
four brothers: Morris (Bernadette) of Marmora, Doug (Eleanor)
of Deloro, Keith (Yola) of Havelock, and Vincent (Joy) of Belleville.
In 1952, Carl graduated from Queen's University with a Bachelor
of Science in Metallurgical Engineering. He began his career
with General Motors Diesel in London, Ontario, moving to Deloro
Stellite before joining the Aluminum Company of Canada (Alcan)
in Kingston in 1957. In 1961, he transferred to Alcan's Montreal
head Office, where, over the course of 30 years, Carl earned
an international reputation as a leader in his field. The family
will receive Friends at the McConnell Funeral Home, Marmora from
2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred
Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Marmora on Wednesday, October
19th, 2005 at 10: 30 a.m. Interment Sacred Heart Cemetery. In
lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation
of Canada would be welcomed by the family.

friend. Survived by Ellen, his wife of 66 years and sons Lewis

Judy GARBA, grandchildren Laura, Jimmy, Chris, Sarah, Erin, and
Lisa, and many extended family members in British Columbia. Predeceased

long time trade union member, Jim began working and organizing
in the lumber camps, gold mines and packinghouse industry in
British Columbia. He became Secretary of the Vancouver Labour
Council and was later an elected Co-Operative Commonwealth Federation
member of the British Columbia legislature before moving to the
international field. In the early 50's he worked with the International
Confederation of Free Trade Unions for two years in Kenya during
the Mau Mau difficulties. In the late 50's he took his family
to Mexico City as he worked in the union movement throughout
Central and South America. He then moved to Toronto where he
was the editor of the United Packinghouse Worker and continued
as a labour organizer and education officer. From 1965 on he
was fully involved with the development of the New Democratic
Party as Secretary of the Ontario New Democratic Party. In 1975
he moved to London, England for 5 years as Counsellor (Labour)
for the federal government. Upon his return to Canada, he and
Ellen moved to Uxbridge and developed an organic farm and raised
sheep. They moved to Thompson House in Don Mills in 2004. We
would like to thanks all the folks at Thompson House for the
entire staff are truly caregivers in every sense of the word.
