On Sunday, March 6, 2005, Edith peacefully passed away at the Greater Niagara General Hospital. Loving wife of the late George Thomas MARTIN (1978) and mother of the late Paul Edmund MARTIN (1957.) Edith is survived by her sister Christina COLGAN of Etobicoke, and her brother-in-law Ben WILCOCK of Stouffville. Predeceased by her sisters Irene (Gordon) DYMOND, Vera COLGAN, Kathleen (John) CONNER, Loretta WILCOCK and her brother James (Jackie) COLGAN. Edith will be fondly remembered by many family members. For many years, Edith was a volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society, the Eventide Home, Saint Martin's Church (Anglican), and sat on an Advisory Board for the City of Niagara Falls. She will be lovingly remembered by her two granddaughters Monique and Jill. Dear sister of Clare HODGSON of Mississauga. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Peacefully on January 24, 2005, Colly was re-united with her beloved Perry. Dearest mother of Paula and Frank COLICCHIA, Carmela DI STASI, Theresa and Richard BURROWS, Michelle and Stephen AGNEW. Cherished grandmother of Danielle and her husband Jason, Jennifer, Mark, Stephanie and Matthew. Loving daughter of the late Michael and Carmela COLANGELO and dear sister of the late Connie and Chris BENNEDSEN. Colly will also be fondly remembered by her sister-in-law Ann CAVALLUZZO and many nieces and nephews. A long time member of the Holy Cross Parish, Colly was very active in all aspects of parish life and was Past President of Holy Cross Catholic Women's League. She also served as President of the Catholic Women's League of the Archdiocese of Toronto. Colly was a member of the Order Sons of Italy. For more than 25 years she was a volunteer at Villa Colombo and served as President of the Villa Colombo Ladies Auxiliary, was on the Board of Governors and in April 1996 was honoured with the President's "Heart in Hand Award". For the past 10 months Colly was a resident of Villa Colombo where she continued her tradition of service as a member of the Residents' Council. Her life was one of commitment to her church and to her community, but mostly to her family. Nothing gave her greater pleasure than having her family and Friends gathered at the cottage for a barbeque and a few games of cards and scrabble. She truly was a unique and kind woman who will be missed by all who knew her. The family will receive Friends at Heritage Funeral Centre, 50 Overlea Blvd., 416-423-1000 on Tuesday, January 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Colly's life will be held on Thursday in the Dome Chapel at Heritage Funeral Centre, please call for time of service. WALLNER, Joseph Peter " Joe"
Died peacefully, on March 2, 2005 at Wellington House Nursing Home in Prescott, Ontario, after several years of declining health, in his 88th year. Born April 11, 1917 in Hanover, Ontario, and a long-time resident of Ancaster and Burlington, Joe was known throughout his life as a fine gentleman who championed through his actions his belief in God, family, his country and the credit union movement. Active in credit unions from an early age, Joe joined the staff of CUNA Mutual in 1951 and travelled extensively in Canada, the U.S. and abroad to support the growth and development of credit unions, and insurance services for credit unions. In 1954-1955 he was president of CUNA (Hamilton) Credit Union. He established many lasting Friendships through his business travels, retiring as Senior Vice President, Corporate Relations, for CUMIS in 1982. He also was active in the Burlington Chamber of Commerce, serving as its president in 1976. In World War 2, Joe served first in the Merchant Marine and then more than three years in Ferry Command, delivering planes and equipment across the Atlantic. His patriotism was still evident years later when he organized a door-to-door campaign in Burlington to encourage families to proudly fly their country's flag on Canada Day. Dozens of families took part, including virtually everyone on Joe's street. Joe was a founding member of two Catholic parishes and was a founding director of St. Louis Parish Credit Union, which became Waterloo Regional Credit Union and where he retained membership for more than 50 years. He was a member of Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Burlington for 37 years. The family express their deepest appreciation to Father John APPELMAN and the Pastoral Care Group at Saint Mark's Parish, Prescott, who supported Joe's faith in many kind ways in recent years. Joe's other great faith was in medical practitioners, from whom he received stellar care, particularly in his declining years. The family would especially like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at Wellington House, where he spent his last four years, as well as Dr. Maung Tun ZAW of Burlington and Dr. Gun BHATT of Prescott. Joe was the dear father of John WALLNER (Sheila) of Gatineau, Quebec, and Eloise COLEMAN (Tom) of Toronto and Brockville. He was predeceased by two loving wives: Audrey Mary BENINGER, (1981,) and Margaret WHITELEY, (1992.) He is survived by his sister Salome (Mrs. Dan DACEY) of Thunder Bay, and brother George WALLNER (Phyllis) of Guelph, and was predeceased by three siblings; Sister Mary SALOME, S.S.N.D.; Gertrude (Mrs. James DAVIDSON) of Kenora; and Flight-Sergeant John WALLNER of Hanover, who was shot down in action August 18, 1943, 15 months after serving as Joe and Audrey's best man. He was 23. Loving sisters and brothers-in-law include Rosemary TRAPLIN (Jack) of Kitchener, Elaine COUCH (Hank) of Calgary, Doris (Mrs. Tom) BENINGER of Orleans, Loretto (Mrs. Gerald) BENINGER of Belleville, Monique (Mrs. Len) BENINGER of Sorel, Quebec, Helen YEO (Kenneth) of St. Catharines, Irmgard (Mrs. Ralph) ROEDIGER of Hamilton and, deceased, Marguerite (Mrs. Lawrence) COLIGAN of Morrisburg, and Bernice MURPHY of Toronto. Joe was also very close to dozens of nieces and nephews. Passed away peacefully at the Saint Thomas Elgin General Hospital on November 15, 2005, following a brief illness. Marg was predeceased by her first husband, Ralph LOUCKS, and her second husband, George WILLIAMS, as well as one son John LOUCKS and by three siblings John MEYER, Ruth McGENN and Helen COLL. She is survived by seven children, Jim (Vee) LOUCKS, Bill (Pam) LOUCKS, Mike (Colleen) LOUCKS, Peter (Heather) LOUCKS, Rob LOUCKS, David (Vicki) LOUCKS, Liz (Bernie) HOLLINGSHEAD; also survived by fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was born April 17, 1918, and raised in Port Burwell; she lived most of her life in St. Thomas. She was a staunch supporter of the Royal Canadian Legion and an avid Cottager who loved being near the water. At Victoria Hospital, on Monday, November 7th, 2005, after a brief fight with cancer, Al HIGGINS of London at the age of 67. Beloved husband of Lois. Loving brother-in-law of Linda COLLACUTT and her late husband Bill. Dear uncle of Robert, Derrick, Pamela, Randy, Paul, Wayne, David, Dean, Janice, Lindsay, Peter and Kathryn. Predeceased by brothers Bill, Norm and Rex HIGGINS. Al worked for Canadian Linen and Uniform for 40 years including 17 years as general manager in London. He was also extremely active as a Barbershopper. A memorial service will be conducted at the Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, on Saturday, November 12th, 2005 at 3: 00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. She was employed as a chef at the London Psychiatric Hospital for many years until her retirement. Miss YEO was a member of Union United Church and the Union-South Yarmouth Seniors. It is with heavy hearts but wonderful memories that the family announces the passing of David COLLEDGE on February 12, 2005. Dave fought a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer and is now at peace. He leaves behind his wife and best friend Marlene, a son Michael and daughter-in-law Renee HARDEN, a daughter Catherine, and son-in-law Pete VANDERWYSAINT_Dave also leaves behind his four grandchildren: Maggie, Mackenzie, Andrew and Peter Jr. Dave was predeceased by his parents George and Jean COLLEDGE and his sister Arlene. He will be fondly remembered by his siblings Avery and Lori COLLEDGE; Karen and Don GARDNER; Brian and Rosemarie COLLEDGE and his many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dave was born on November 6, 1938 and lived his entire life in Elgin County. He attended Saint Thomas Collegiate Insti tute and worked for over 41 years at Hayes Dana's Victor Division. Dave recently retired and enjoyed very much spending time with his family and Friends. He had a passion for life that was an inspiration to us all. He was a loving father who took a keen interest in the lives of his children and his grandchildren. Dave was a farmer, and an avid gardener, a builder and a sport horse enthusiast. He will be missed by all who knew him. We loved him very much. At Dave's request, he will be cremated, there will be no visitation and no public service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Dave's memory to the Saint Thomas Elgin General Hospital chemotherapy unit. A family only service was held on February 14, 2005.
