Dear grandfather of Derek of Ottawa, Marcie of London, and Kelsey BUTTERWICK of Saint Thomas, Jamieson MacQUEEN of Saint Thomas and Caron and Connor BURRELL of London. Also survived by a number of cousins. Predeceased by his wife Lois (GOODWIN) BURRELL. Don was born in Saint Thomas on December 22, 1934, the son of the late Allan and Mildred (JENNINGS) BURRELL. Gord was loved for his wacky sense of humour and his incredible zest for life. He had tremendous "kiai" (inner strength of judokai) which was never more evident than through his nearly 5 year battle with cancer. Many thanks to the Oncology and Palliative Care teams at Sunnybrook and in the community, Dr. TANIOUS and the home care team for their expert and compassionate care. Rhonda Marie (KLEIN,) cherished wife of Tim BUTTON, was born on January 2, 1978 and went home to her heavenly Father on August 12, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer. Dearly loved daughter of Harvey and Gloria KLEIN of Francis, Saskatchewan loving sister of Tracy and Rich EDMISON (Kyle and Sarah,) Audrey and Chris GREALISH (Chloe and Liam), Bonnie and Donovan CARROLL (Matthew, Miranda, Rebecca and Anna), Kevin and Shannon KLEIN (Kailey) and Jennifer KLEIN ad her fiancé Kevin WARD. Rhonda was predeceased by her grandparents, Tony and Anna KLEIN, and will remain forever in the hearts of her surviving grandparents, Steve and Theresa DECK. Rhonda brought great joy to the family of her husband, Tim. She is the treasured daughter-in-law of Karen BUTTON, London and John and Debbie BUTTON, Morpeth. She was a very special sister-in-law to Claire BUTTON and Geoff MATTHEWS. Rhonda was predeceased by grandparents-in-law Jim and Nancy BUTTON and brought much love to surviving grandparents-in-law, Frank and Marion MILLS.
Rhonda was a graduate of the Royal Military College in Kingston and served her country loyally including a tour of duty with the the North Atlantic Treaty Organization peace keeping forces in Banja Luka. Rhonda will be greatly missed by her many childhood Friends, her military classmates and colleagues, many aunts, uncles and cousins and all of Tim's extended family and Friends. Rhonda lived her life to the fullest and she and Tim found their greatest joy in their marriage and in the short life they had together. Tim was by Rhonda's side throughout her illness. Rhonda loved giving to people in need and it was her heart's desire to find ways to serve and help those less fortunate. In lieu of flowers, Tim, Harvey, Gloria and Rhonda and Tim's families would be honoured if her memory was recognized by donations to the Souls Harbor Mission House, Box 24025, 1792 Broad Street, Regina, Saskatchewan, S4P 4J8. 78, Truro, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2005, at home, surrounded by family. Born in Halifax, Yvonne was the daughter of the late Earl and Mabel (DICKSON/DIXON) MALLOY. Yvonne graduated from the Halifax Children's Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. Following graduation, Yvonne worked with the Dalhousie Public Health Clinic in tuberculosis research and also served as a private duty nurse for paediatric and adult patients. Yvonne was a dedicated Reach to Recovery Volunteer, Canadian Cancer Society, for over 25 years. Yvonne was a member of First United Church, Truro, a United Church Women member and assisted with the youth choir in the 1970's. A gracious, selfless and compassionate woman, Yvonne devoted herself to her family and her community. After a valiant battle with cancer, Lorraine passed away at the age of 56 years. Lorraine is survived by her husband Rod WACOWICH along with the jewel of Lorraine's eye daughter Julie. Also surviving Lorraine are Geoff and Shannon WACOWICH; grandchildren: Matt and Molly, Bob WACOWICH and Susan WISHART, Mark and Carol STRILCHUK along with granddaughter Claire and grandchild soon to be born. Lorraine also leaves her brothers; George, Donald, Doug (Joanne) sister, Pam and Tom BOUCHARD and numerous nephews and nieces from both sides of the family. Lorraine was predeceased by her parents George and Dorothy and nephew Donald. Lorraine spent her life as a lawyer with Federal Justice and was involved in many major issues for Canada. She has Friends throughout the Federal Government and enjoyed working with them and the law. She sends her love to all. Lorraine was very committed to the advancement of social issues and right to the end was involved in spending her energy to make our community better. She has Friends across the world with her love and personality. SMITH, Sergeant (Retired) Ernest Alvia "Smokey", V.C., C.M., O.B.C., C.D.
The last survivor of Canada's sixteen Second World War Victoria Cross recipients, Sergeant (Retired) Ernest Alvia 'Smokey' SMITH, aged 91, died peacefully at home in Vancouver on August 3, 2005, surrounded by his family and Friends, following a long and fulfilling life. Smokey was born in New Westminster on May 3, 1914 to John and Flora Jane SMITH. He and his two younger brothers, Bert and Jack, all served in the Canadian Army. Their sisters were Pearl and Norma. Smokey's wife, lifelong companion and friend, Esther, died in 1996 after 50 years of married life together, including much time spent with family and Friends. They shared a love of travel and photography, and particularly enjoyed their regular trips to Hawaii. Smokey will be sadly missed and remembered by his daughter Norma-Jean BUTTS, son David SMITH, granddaughter Tamara BUTTS, grand_son Daniel BUTTS, other family members, close Friends, and comrades. The Victoria Cross 'For Valour,' instituted by Queen Victoria in 1857, is awarded for conspicuous bravery, or some daring or pre-eminent act of valour or self-sacrifice or extreme devotion to duty in the presence of the enemy. Since its inception, only 95 Canadians have received this most prestigious honour. The only Canadian Private soldier to win the Victoria Cross during the Second World War, Smokey singlehandedly defeated a German armoured counter-attack on the vulnerable Savio River bridgehead, during the Italian campaign, on the night of October 21 to 22, 1944. During his defence of the position, Smokey saved the life of his wounded comrade, Jimmy TENNANT. His dogged determination, devotion to duty, and superb gallantry inspired his comrades in The Seaforth Highlanders of Canada to hold firm against further enemy attacks. Smokey later received his Victoria Cross from the hand of King George VI.

It is with deep sadness that the family of Jim Jamieson announces his death on October 22, 2005 at Georgetown Hospital after struggling courageously with emphysema for many years. He was the best friend and beloved husband of Pauline (WELLS) for 54 years, loving father of Garth (Laurie) and Brian (Jody) of Winnipeg, Gail AIKEN (Reed) of Milton, and Susan LOGAN of Georgetown and much loved and admired grandfather of Robin and Erin JAMIESON, Kyle and Kayla LOGAN and Jack JAMIESON. He is also survived by his loving sister Muriel BUTTS of Oregon, brother-in-law Victor (Audrey) WELLS and several nieces and nephews. Jim was a Navy veteran of World War 2 and an employee of Air Canada for 43 years.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at J.S. Jones and son Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown, Ontario on October 25 at 11: 00 a.m., followed by a reception in the Trafalgar Room. Peacefully at home in Scarborough with family on Tuesday, November 29, 2005. Gordon BUTTS at the age of 85 years. Loving husband of the late Gloria Lillian (TUBBS) BUTTS. Beloved father of Debbie LAWRIE (Richard) of Scarborough, Larry BUTTS (Maggie) of Medicine Hat, Alberta and Bob BUTTS (Cathy) of Barrie. Passed away peacefully, in his eighty-third year, on Thursday, June 9, 2005 at Woodhall Park Specialty Care Residence in Brampton. Predeceased by his loving wives, Doe and Irene. Loving and proud father of Barry and daughter-in-law Dee. Don was adored and will be forever missed by his grand_sons, Garry (Maria) and Todd (Leanne) and great-grandchildren, William, Robbie, Mattias and Jessika (predeceased). Will be fondly remembered by his sisters, Betty, Shirley, Virginia, Patsy ROSE and brother, Danny and sister-in-law, Phylis DALE and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers, Allan, Ted, Ralph and sisters, Eleanor, May and Audrey. Don served overseas from August 1944 to May 1945, as a member of the Algonquin Regiment, and was a prisoner of war for most of this time.
