MORRISON- WALTER, Helen (née WILKINSON)
Died August 1st, 2005 at Summit Place Nursing Home, after a long courageous and devastating battle with Alzheimer. Helen was born in Sydenham Township on January 31st, 1915 to Alan and Annie WILKINSON. Predeceased by her first husband William MORRISON (1972) and her second husband Mac WALTER (1981) and by her adopted brother Billy BREWER. She leaves behind three children, Sharon (Mrs. Barry BEATTY;) of Sauble Beach, Donald MORRISON (Nancy) of London, Allan MORRISON (June;) of Perth as well as ten grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Step-mother of Norman, Edward, James and John WALTER and their families. Helen and her husband Bill owned and operated a very successful eating establishment in the 1950's, known as the "Chicken Shack", on the present Sunset Strip. Her ability to prepare quality food quickly at reasonable prices, such as her famous "Chicken on a Bun", was years ahead of its time. Helen's career turned to Real Estate, in the 1960's, where her dynamic personality coupled with her integrity and strong work ethic made her a leading salesperson in the Hanbridge & Bowman organization for many years. Helen believed in giving back to her community and held presidential positions in the Kinette Club, the ladies section of the Grey Granite Curling Club, the Quota Club International, of which she was a Charter Member of the Owen Sound Club, Dufferin Home and School Association and Grand Esther, in the Order of the eastern Star. Her dedication to her city of birth was recognized on November 5th, 1982 when she was made Honourary Citizen of the City of Owen Sound. To those of you who remember her and loved her, in truth, she left us many years ago and we have been mourning her loss ever since. Friends may call at the Breckenridge-Ashcroft Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 7: 00 to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday morning at 11: 00 a.m. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Harold was born in Birdton, New Brunswick on April 20, 1921, the son of the late Charles "Earl" and Alice (BREWER) STAFFORD. After graduating from teacher's college, he entered into the Air Force, served as a sargeant and was stationed in Saint Thomas for 3 years. He was a graduate of the University of New Brunswick, Bachelor of Science and the University of New Brunswick Law School and attended the London School of Economics on a Lord Beaverbrook Scholarship. He started practicing law in 1953 in Brantford and then Saint Thomas in 1955. He was appointed to Queens Council in 1969. He was a Federal Member of Parliament for Elgin County from 1965 to 1972 and was Chairman of the Ontario Caucus. He was a member of Branch 41 of the Royal Canadian Legion, St. David's Masonic Lodge #302 Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons, the Hi-Ro Shrine, the Oddfellows and former member of Saint Thomas Kiwanis Club. Tom was also the former owner of QT Truck Rentals and Minit Lube, Simcoe. He was the developer of Agricultural, Residential, Commercial and Industrial properties in the Simcoe area and Insurance Appraiser of Antique and Classic Vehicles for over 45 years. Mr. STACKHOUSE's Community involvement included, former member of Simcoe Rotary, Simcoe Lions Club, Simcoe Minor Hockey Coach, Board Member of Ontario Housing Authority, Ontario Provincial Police Auxiliary, Simcoe and District Chamber of Commerce serving on several committees, and Corvettes of Southern Ontario. Tom was a member of the Ontario Tire Dealers Association, serving on several committees, President of Haldimand-Norfolk-Brant-Ontario Progressive Conservative Association from 1998-2002, President of the Conservative Party of Canada Haldimand Norfolk E.D.A. 2004, Founder and Past President of Historical Automobile Society of Canada, Long Point Chapter, Member of American Truck Historical Society of North America, Member of Harley Owners Group, Member of International Cockshutt Club, Ducks Unlimited, Board of Directors of Haldimand-Norfolk-Tillsonburg Crime Stoppers, and was appointed to the Police Services Board of Haldimand-Norfolk, June 2000 to September 2005. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our husband and father at Parkwood Hospital, London, on Tuesday, December 27th, 2005. Allen, who turned 84 on October 19, will be greatly missed by Elinore, his wife of 62 years, daughter Janet and husband Dan WOODS of London, son Jim and wife Cindy of Woodstock, grand_sons Jamie and Jeremy BREWER, great-grandchildren Dylan, Taylor and Abbey and step-granddaughter Sara WOODS. Predeceased by his brother Glenn in 2002, he is also survived by his sister-in-law Paula in Miami, Florida, nieces, nephews and cousins. Allen was a Navy Leading Seaman during World War 2, retired after 37 years at C.N. Rail and was a Past Commodore of the Kanagio Yacht Club in Port Stanley. He was also an active member of Saint Martin-in-the-Fields Anglican Church. He was a graduate of the University of New Brunswick Bachelor of Science and the University of New Brunswick Law School and attended the London School of Economics on a Lord Beaverbrook Scholarship. He started practicing law in 1953 in Brantford and then Saint Thomas in 1955. He was appointed to Queens Council in 1969. He was the Federal member of Parliament for Elgin County from 1965 to 1972 and was Chairman of the Ontario Caucus. He was a member of Branch 41 of the Royal Canadian Legion, St. David's Masonic Lodge #302 Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons, the Oddfellows and former member of Saint Thomas Kiwanis Club. Her love touched him in ways he never experienced before, making her impossible to forget. Catherine was an accomplished ballerina, dancing professionally in Vienna and Toronto. She especially loved her role as the Sugar Plum Fairy. She later became a Human Resources specialist, improving employee relations every day. The medical community especially Doctors VARDY, HEADLY, REINGOLD and SEHDEV and all the support from paramedics, homecare and palliative care surrounded Catherine and her family with love and compassion and provided exceptional care. We are fortunate to have experienced their level of commitment.
