BOTTIN,
Dorothy
Lois (née
BRISBOIS)
Died on October 20, 2005 at the Toronto General Hospital from
heart failure complicated by pneumonia, in her 84th year. Dorothy
was raised on a modest farm in Winchester, Ontario with siblings
Jenny, Elmer, Kenneth, Helen and Theresa under the loving guidance
of their mother Elizabeth, father Elgin and grandfather Roger.
As a young woman, Dorothy moved to Toronto where she struggled
to succeed during the war and post-war era. Meeting each challenge
with optimistic tenacity, she found work as a switchboard operator,
shared cramped living space with her girlfriends, and danced
her cares away to big band music at the Palais Royale. Dorothy
lived in Toronto until 1955 when she married Edgar John
BOTTIN.
The couple settled in Hamilton where Dorothy devoted the ensuing
years to her husband and only child, Candace. Widowed in 1981,
Dorothy returned to Toronto and armed with little more than her
usual dogged determination, pounded the pavement seeking employment.
She was eventually hired as a receptionist with law firm Tory
Tory DesLauriers and Binnington where she happily remained until
the early 1990's. Dorothy made the most of her retirement years
and faced growing older with the same resolve she exhibited throughout
her life. She played Bridge, starred in amateur theatre productions,
worked as a volunteer, shared good times with Friends and family,
and doted on her beloved dog 'Puddles'. Dorothy was a proud,
creative, fun-loving, generous, strong-willed, independent woman
whose inimitable spirit shines like a beacon for Candace, to
whom she was an exceptional mother; for Jenny, Helen and Theresa,
her surviving and much loved siblings; for her cherished nieces,
nephews and their children; and for her many treasured Friends.
Those who wish to celebrate Dorothy's life are invited to a memorial
service at Murray Newbigging Funeral Home, 733 Mount Pleasant
Road, Toronto, on Saturday, November 19th at 2: 00 p.m. A reception
will follow. To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.
