BLOOMFIELD, Dr. Robert Carnwath
Dr. Robert Carnwath BLOOMFIELD died suddenly of a coronary while jogging on vacation in Northern Ireland, the land of his birth, on April 19, 2005. Born on April 26, 1928, in Omagh, County Tyrone, Robert attended Omagh Academy and later Campbell College in Belfast. Robert pursued studies in medicine at Queens University in Belfast, finishing with a M.B., B.C.H., D.R.C.O.G. and D.L.O. (Eng.). While at University, Robert also distinguished himself in sport, garnering numerous titles including captain of the university field hockey team and captain of athletics. Robert immigrated to Canada in 1959 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and attained additional certification in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He maintained a busy surgical practice at the Queensway General Hospital in Toronto's west end, becoming head of the Department of Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery in 1966; a position he held until his retirement in 1992. During this period he also served as a board member of the Quo Vadis School of Nursing. Robert excelled in every thing he put his mind and heart to. His love of life found expression in his varied passions, including golf, tennis, skiing, farming, travel, reading, music (both classical and jazz) and the company of his many Friends, but no passion figured more prominently in his life, or gave him greater satisfaction, than his love for his wife and family. Robert is survived by his loving wife Maureen, his three sons; John, Stuart and Patrick, their wives; Maria, Helen and Nadine; and grandchildren; Giovanni, Nicole, Justin, Samuel, Sarah, Liam and Rebekah. His passing leaves a void in our lives that will be impossible to fill. In his life Robert touched many with his goodness and gentle way. He will be forever in our hearts and sadly missed. A memorial service will be held on June 24, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Toronto Golf and Country Club, located at 1305 Dixie Rd., Mississauga. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation will be appreciated.
