Died peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday October 12th at home, Ottawa, Ontario, of complications arising from lung cancer, at the age of 77 years. Survived by her loving husband of 44 years Alan, her daughter Ann BAUMAN/BOWMAN (Tim) of Toronto, her son Ned LOUGHREY (Christi) of Cantley, Quebec. Dearly loved Gran of Sarah and Carolyn Bowman and Sam LOUGHREY. Daughter of the late Ned and Sadie (née SMITH) BROWN of Claresholm, Alberta. Marjorie is also survived by her sister Dorothy BECKEL (William) of North Vancouver, British Columbia, her brother W. Gordon BROWN (Rose Mary) of Calgary, Alberta, her sister-in-law Elvey BROWN of Calgary, Alberta, and her sister-in-law Noreen (née LOUGHREY) and her husband Jack McMILLAN of Toronto. Lovingly remembered by her numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sisters Louise PALMER and Ann GRIFFITHS and her brother, Edward BROWN. A strong supporter of her community, Marjorie's early volunteer activities included work with Planned Parenthood and Canadian Parents for French. She served locally as a trustee on the Ottawa Board of Education from 1980-82 and 1984 to 1994 and Chair of the Board for a number of years, as well as provincially on the boards of the Ontario Public School Board Association and the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. Locally she was an enthusiastic supporter of the Arts Programme at Canterbury High School. Marjorie's lifetime interest in the arts and art history lead her, as a mature student, to studies at Carleton University, graduating with a B.A. degree, at age 72, with the Class of 2000. Her interest in the arts continued, manifesting itself in support of the Carleton University Art Gallery, membership in the Friends of Prints and Drawings of the National Gallery of Canada, and as Editor of the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra Newsletter from 1984 to Spring 2005. A Celebration of Marjorie's Life will be held in the Fountain Room at the National Arts Centre, 53 Elgin Street, Ottawa, on Sunday October 23rd from 1 to 4 p.m. where we look forward to welcoming Friends, family and colleagues to share memories. The family wishes to express its deeply felt thanks and gratitude to Dr. NICHOLAS, Dr. FARNCOMBE and in particular nurse Charlene O'DOHERTY. Lenore worked at the Durham and Hanover Hospitals as an R.N., until retiring and was a member of the Bentinck Women's Fellowship and the Federated Farm Women. Survived by daughters, Doreen and husband, Dean PAGE, of Waterloo, Shirley and husband, Robert HUNSPERGER, of Hanover grandchildren, Nancy and Gary CONWAY, Gwen and Don ROTH, Tracey and Chris SURDYKOWSKI, all of Waterloo, Cathy and Andy HILL, of Orangeville, Kim and Dale BECKER, of Ayton, Randall and Debby HUNSPERGER, of Kitchener, Rob and Wendy HUNSPERGER, of R.R.#3, Hanover; fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grand_son.
