Arthur Herbert HEADLAM passed away on June 28, 2005, after a short battle with cancer. Predeceased by his parents, William and Dorothy HEADLAM, Arthur is survived by his wife, Joyce; his children, Elizabeth of Toronto, David of Rochester, New York, Philip of London, England and Bruce of New York City; their partners, Brian WHALLEY, Sylvie BEAUDETTE and Laurie MORRIS; and his grandchildren, Jerome and Cedric.
The family would like to thank the staff of Grand River Hospital for their care and support and also thank Arthur's many Friends and colleagues at the University of Waterloo.

Passed away, Saturday, September 17, 2005 at the age of 77. Always loved and sadly missed by his devoted and beloved wife Sarah BRETT; daughters Anne (Trevor HALL,) Mary, Jennifer and Laura (Patrice BEAUDIN;) brother Peter (Gisele;) sisters-in-law Karin BRETT (Bill) and Anna McLEOD; as well as five grandchildren, five nieces and five nephews. Predeceased by his brother William (Bill) and sister Anne. Dr. BRETT was born in London, Ontario and graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1956. He practiced medicine in London, Ontario and also spent many years administering to the medical needs of people of the Arctic. Dr. BRETT also served as a Regional Director (Overseas Region) and Director General for the Medical Services Branch of Health Canada and was a sought after public speaker. In addition to his many career accomplishments he will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family and for his wonderful humour. Cremation will be followed by interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Guelph. Nana, our little Angel has gone to Heaven to join her husband of 65 years - Lester Harold QUESNEL (Poppy.) Precious loving mother to Caroline BOYE of London and Sean of Toronto. Loving loyal grandmother to Megan also of Toronto. Special grandmother to Wade BOYE of London who will miss her beautiful, sweet, kind, caring, loving Little Perfect Nana - "Nana Banana" - her kindred spirit and roommate. Loving aunt to Maxine WEEDLE and her husband Pat of Oakville. Special little Nana and best friend to Tanya BEAUDRY and Kristy FIEGEHEN of London. After a brief, stoic battle with cancer, Peter leaves his wife of 46 years, Muriel May (née BEAUFIELD;) his son John Charles GRAY/GREY (San Diego;) daughter Susan M. GRAY/GREY (Halifax;) and brother John H. GRAY/GREY (La Châtre, France;) predeceased by his sister Mary Louise ROSE. Born in Windsor, Ontario, son of the late Mary A. GRAY/GREY (née HAWKEY) and John Campbell GRAY/GREY. Following his graduation from Nepean High School in Ottawa, Ontario, Peter embarked on several expeditions to the Canadian Arctic as a steward aboard the icebreaker D'Iberville. He gained a life-long appreciation and admiration of the North, its natives and their art. Peter graduated from Carleton University in Ottawa with a Bachelor of Science, Geology in 1957 and began work that summer with McNamara Construction, first in Belleville, Ontario, and soon after in Witless Bay, Newfoundland. It was there he had the good fortune of meeting his soon-to-be wife Muriel, who was working as a nurse in Saint John's. When they married in 1959, the United Church Minister insisted on knowing where Peter was from 'in Newfoundland' Windsor, Ontario was not acceptable and their marriage certificate states that Peter is from Witless Bay. Peter's experiences with roadbuilding and heavy equipment led him to join the Caterpillar Company first in Toronto in 1960 and later in Halifax in 1972 with Nova Scotia Tractor and Equipment. As General Sales Manager and later Vice-President Corporate Development, Peter was regarded as an excellent salesman and an inspiring manager. On a wine tasting trip to France in 1983, Peter was named a 'Hospitalier d'Honneur' by the Hospitaliers de Pomeral; it was a moment he truly prized. With retirement in July 1998, Peter's life was filled with the joy of a first grandchild (and 'best pal',) Oliver Peter DICKSON/DIXON and in 2001 Gunnar Eric GRAY/GREY. He also began the seven year commitment to the care of his ailing spouse. He was a fine man, full of love and generosity and we will miss him forever. Captain William "Bill" Knaggs of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. Suddenly on December 12, 2005 in his 80th year at Creek Way Village, after a fierce battle with stroke. His head failed, not his heart. After service in India, a Victoria State Trooper, a town planner for the Town of Hobart, and the Cities of Manchester and Toronto. Later, Planning Director for the City of Vaughan. Brother to Audrey BEAULIE, he is also survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Margaret; sons Peter, Michael and David; daughters Rosemary and Catherine; ten grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Bill will now join his cherished first daughter Margaret Anne in the Rose Garden. He served the community, Saint John's and Canada well with duty and honour, and he will be sorely missed. The organist was Colleen FYFE and her husband Dave lead everyone in singing two of Jim's favourite hymns “We Are One In The Spirit&rdquo and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” Heartfelt tributes were given by Ken SHORT, Jim PROWSE and Peter LASKEY. Pallbearers were Colin CURRIE, Neil MURRAY, Ben SYER, Herb DEWITT, Tony BEAULIEU and Al BUTSON. Interment followed in Resurrection Cemetery. James was an avid car enthusiast and member of Southern Ontario Street Rods Inc. since 1970, he was a salesman with MacFarlane Chev Olds Ltd.

John H. “Jack” OWLES of Saint Thomas, passed away at the Saint Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Friday, April 29, 2005, in his 86th year. Beloved husband of Edna (TRIPP) OWLES, late Edna (HAMILTON) OWLES (1959) and the late Hazel (NELLES) OWLES (1968.) Dearly loved father of Charlie OWLES and his wife Nancy of Saint Thomas. Dear step-father of Yvonne CHAMBERS, Carol BROWN, Wendy WOLFE and her husband Jim, and Brian PARKINS and his wife Sandy, all of Saint Thomas. Brother of the late Lois HENRY and late George OWLES. Also survived by a brother-in-law, Bill HENRY of British Columbia, Goddaughter, Shannon WILLIAMS of Sweaburg, and by a number of grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
Born in Morse, Saskatchewan, April 24, 1920, son of the late Percy and May (BEAUMONT) OWLES. He was a retired employee of Canron, Saint Thomas. Mr. OWLES was a member of the Saint Thomas Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). During the Second World War, he served in Labrador with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Friends will be received at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington Street, Saint Thomas on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where the funeral and committal service will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. Private interment in Elmdale Memorial Park. Passed away suddenly on Remembrance Day, Friday, November 11, 2005. Jim resided in Milverton and was formerly of London. He was born 72 years ago in Monkton and was the son of the late Alfred and Loretta (SHINE) ANDERSON. Jim worked for the Department of National Defense in London for many years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 565, Milverton and was a veteran of the Korean War where he served in the Royal Canadian Regiment. Beloved partner of Wilma GINGERICH of Milverton. Dear father of Donna and husband Mark CARROLL, Shirley SAMPSON/SAMSON, James and wife Susan ANDERSON, Peter and wife Cheryl ANDERSON all of London and Mary ANDERSON of Huron Park. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Julian BENBOW, her son Michael LAURIE, daughters Sandra APPLETON, Deirdre LAURIE- BEAUMONT and Catherine Benbow PLEWES, and also by her eight grandchildren. She was predeceased by first husband, Dr. John LAURIE. Sister of Karlyn ALLARD. HARRIS, Standish Alan (1901-2005)
On August 14th, 2005 Alan passed away peacefully at his country home in Caledon, in his 105th year. Adoring husband of the late Naomi Francis (PICK) and stepfather to her son the late Robert Sholto DOUGLAS/DOUGLASS. Loving 'Pappy' to Margot CURRY and family and Michael DOUGLAS/DOUGLASS and family. Uncle Alan to Alan HODGINS, Mel HODGINS, Betty McWHINNIE, Jim HARRIS, Aldine BEAUMONT and their families. After leaving his home in Kilmallock, County Limerick and graduating from Trinity College in Dublin Alan made his way to Toronto. He had a brief job with the T. Eaton Co. and then landed the job he wanted, to teach. He became a teacher at Upper Canada College and was there from 1925-1965. Alan was a most admired and respected teacher. He loved the challenge of teaching Mathematics and was at his best when dealing with those who found the subject difficult. He was the head of the Mathematics Department for 30 years. Upper Canada College's property in Norval was a great love of Alan's and he personally supervised and assisted with the planting of thousands of trees there, results of his efforts are remembered as the 'Harris Arboretum'. After his wife's death Alan moved to his property in Caledon with his dog Rheba. He maintained a first-rate vegetable garden and wonderful flowerbeds. He also spent many years reforesting this property. He fed countless birds each winter and took great joy in his last years observing them with his binoculars on the bird feeder outside his living room. Much to the delight of many visitors Alan had the chickadees feeding from their hands. Alan had wonderful loving care over the last few years from Margot and Shane CURRY, Wendy DARROW, Thierry FOURNIER, Nancy WENGLEWICK, Evelyn BUNKER, Nancy SINCLAIR and Diane McKENZIE and her Victorian Order of Nurses team. Also Dr. Stuart BIRNIE and Elizabeth BIRNIE. A private family funeral service was held at the Egan Funeral Home, Bolton on Wednesday, August 17. Interment of cremated remains at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto.
