and passed away on December 29, 2005 in Toronto, Ontario. She

dormire" It is sweet to sleep. Maria often said that she loved
to sleep because it gave her the opportunity to dream about being
young again. At 96, one can understand her need. She fished,
hunted and played cards every Friday night. She won many bocce
tournaments at the cottage at Round Lake. With skilled hands
she prepared exquisite meals, could crochet, embroider and sew.
Drawing from her repertoire of Italian arias and love ballads,
her crystalline singing voice entertained family and Friends.
She will be celebrated by those who remain and embraced by those
who have gone before. Maria is survived by her son Peter (wife

Musician born in London, England, on January 4, 1892. A child
prodigy, he first studied under pianist Vlahol Budmani, who presented
him at Buckingham Palace. Later, he moved to New York to work
with composer Sigmund Romberg and, in 1922, went on tour as a
concert pianist until 1929, when he became conductor of the Royal
York Hotel Concert Orchestra in Toronto. Later, he formed one
of Canada's first big bands and, from 1943 to 1956, served as
conductor of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Radio show
Singing Stars of Tomorrow. In the 1960s, he wrote operatic numbers
as well as a short orchestral piece and works for piano and violin.
