BAKEMEYER, John Frederick
Veteran World War 2, 1939-1945 Royal Canadian Engineers. On Tuesday, February 22, 2005 our beloved father passed away. He is now reunited with our mother Betty (2003), whom he dearly loved and missed. Left with many special memories are his three daughters Jan, Jody and Jill, sons-in-law Brian BENNETT and the late Bruce BATES (2003); his grandchildren John, Julie, Robby, Andrew and Joel his sister Margaret and his late brother Victor (1998). Dad proudly dedicated his life to police work in which he served as Deputy Sheriff of Montgomery County, Ohio, on the Metropolitan Toronto Police Force and later as Staff Sergeant of Security for the Ontario Jockey Club, for 30 years. He loved the horses and had a special finesse for picking the winner. He enjoyed making wooden crafts for his grandchildren with our Mom and their annual trips to Florida. Dad was an honourable man with integrity who took pride in anything he undertook. He will be remembered for his sense of humour and mostly for his love and dedication to our family. Dad we will never forget your familiar words to us "how are you fixed for blades and keep your wits". "Honour bright". Man missing since February 16 found dead
By Shannon PROUDFOOT, Staff Reporter
A father and son out for an afternoon walk in Morningside Park made a grim discovery yesterday afternoon: the body of a 57-year-old man who wandered away from a Scarborough nursing home nearly a month ago.
John GOMES, who suffered from schizophrenia and required medication, was last seen leaving the Seven Oaks Nursing Home in Scarborough on February 16, wearing only a T-shirt, cotton pants, running shoes and a three-quarter-length jacket.
The nursing home, which houses 250 residents, is located on Neilson Rd. near Morningside Ave. and Ellesmere Rd., right beside the park where GOMES' body was discovered yesterday.
No foul play is suspected in the death, and an autopsy was scheduled for today to determine the exact cause.
Det. Tim BATES said GOMES' family repeatedly expressed their gratitude to the public, media and police for their help in trying to locate GOMES after he went missing.
