29, 2005 at 4: 15 p.m. while in the gentle hands of the Palliative
Care Ward at Toronto Grace Hospital. She will be remembered as
an artist, both in her youth and her later years, a graduate
of the Vancouver School of Decorative and Applied Arts, now known
as the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. She will be remembered
as a leader with Girl Guides of Canada where she was the Area
Commissioner for Halton County. She will be remembered by those
she worked with in the Ontario government, as the Manager of
the Provinces Resource Centre. She will be remembered as a dedicated
volunteer at her home Burnham Glen
(YCC56) serving 20 years on
the Board of Directors in the capacity of President. Finally,
she will be remembered by her three sons Michael (Susan)

netted him the affectionate moniker "Uncle Billie" which for
a happy time also served as the name of his night club in downtown
London. Billie had many many Friends for whom he reserved his
own special affection. He will be missed. Special thanks go to
his Friends at the Wortley Roadhouse who provided Billie with
a home away from home before and during his final illness.

be held on Friday at 11: 00 a.m. with Reverend Bruce

United Church officiating. Cremation has already taken place.

On December 2, 2005, Dr. William Alfred (Bill)
AYER of Edmonton
passed away at the age of 73 years. He leaves to mourn his loss,
his loving wife of 51 years, Dorothy; six children, Susan (Marc)

one sister, and one grandchild, David James Anderson
AYER.
Bill was an accomplished chemist and teacher. Born in Middle
Sackville, New Brunswick, he studied chemistry at the University
of New Brunswick and Harvard University where he was involved
in the first total synthesis of chlorophyll. Beginning in 1958,
he was a professor of chemistry at the University of Alberta,
and he was appointed "University Professor" in 1992. Bill was
a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, a former Editor of the
Canadian Journal of Chemistry, and past President of the Canadian
Society for Chemistry. He taught and mentored many undergraduate,
postgraduate, and postdoctoral chemists by combining ingenious
creativity with infectious enthusiasm, joy, and genuine caring.
His gentle manner, sense of humour and love for his wife, family
and Friends will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be
held at St. George's Anglican Church in Edmonton, Alberta, on
Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at 1: 00 p.m. Donations may be made
directly to the Centre for Lung Health, Caritas Health Group,
11111 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5K 0L4.
