On Monday, November 28, 2005, at 8: 30 a.m., Grga (George, Braco) NOVACICH, age 65, died peacefully at the Saint Thomas-Elgin General Hospital. George was the cherished husband of Mari (née BASAN) for 45 years and the beloved and respected father (Tata) of Anne Marie, Georgina, Trish (JONES), Nick, and Donna (PEARCE). George was also the beloved father-in-law of Scott JONES, Krista MORRIS and Shawn PEARCE. Dida will be forever missed by his loving grandchildren: Mitchell and Allison JONES; Nicole and Brooklyn PEARCE; and Ben (Mali Grga) NOVACICH. George also leaves behind his beloved sister Kata BACIC and family; sister Ana KATIC and family; sister Ivka ZARKOVIC and family; and the family of his deceased sister, Marija VUJOVIC. (Head of English Department at R.S. McLaughlin C.V.I.) Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 23rd, 2005 at her family home in Whitby with her loving husband Michael BABIER by her side. Since the diagnosis of her illness in December, Leslie spent the majority of her time at home and enjoyed many quality moments with her daughter, Amy, her son, Dane, and her stepson, Aaron. Leslie is predeceased by her father, Lawrence GILL and her mother, Gina SIMPSON- GILL, both of Peterborough. During her long teaching career, first at Central Collegiate and then at M.C.V.I., Leslie made a significant impact on all who knew her - staff and students alike. Leslie's family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Leslie's closest Friends, and the extended Bergstrom and Babier families who offered unfailing support. They would also like to acknowledge the exceptional care provided by many personal support workers, nurses, hospice volunteers and the Lakeridge Health - Oshawa palliative care team. Leslie will be missed by all. Dear Brother of Doris WAUD and her husband the late Bill WAUD, the late John COUSINS, and the late Marion PAYNE. Also will be missed by his many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Fred retired in 1977 after working at Robson Lang tannery for 49 years. Retired Police Officer, Metropolitan Toronto Police Services. Peacefully, surrounded by his family, Friday, January 28, 2005 at the Toronto Western Hospital, in his 52nd year. Beloved son of Ernest and Viola GRÉGOIRE of Sudbury. Loving father of Angela and Scott of Ajax, Ontario. Dear brother of Ernest Jr. (wife Sylvie) and Muriel ANDERSON, both of Sudbury, Donna (husband Douglas) SHUART of Hanmer, Debra (husband Jerry) BONNEVILLE of St. Catharines and Michael (wife Margaret) of Wanup. Lovingly remembered by several nieces, nephews and by his best Friends Bernie BABIN, Mike MOFFAT and Dave RICHARDS. Gary was born, raised and educated in Sudbury. He commenced his police career at 55 Division, Toronto with Metropolitan Toronto Police Services, thence moved to 52 Division where he has spent the past 23 years before taking leave due to ill health, retiring December 31st, 2004. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting with Friends and family. He looked forward to retirement back in the north country. Those that were very close to Gary "Rock", will miss his strength of character, loyalty to family and Friends, his gentleness, his quick wit, his sense of humour, thoughtfulness and kindness. Peacefully at Marian Villa on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 Capt. Hugh A. (Hughie) GILLIS Ret., C.D.3 passed away surrounded by his family. Loving husband of Hughette (Gidget) née PELLETIER of 48 years. Beloved father of Shirley BABSTOCK (Bob,) Debbie JORDAN (Doug,) and Gary GILLIS. Proud grandfather of Brad, Crystal, Shannon, Bryan BABSTOCK and Teri-Lynn JORDAN and great-grandfather of Mackenzie RANDS. Also survived by brothers and sisters in the Maritimes. At the Leacock Care Centre, Orillia, on Tuesday, October 11, 2005. Born in Happy Adventure, Newfoundland on May 31, 1914. Beryl (née POWELL) was married to the late Dugald (Doug) for 62 years. Loving mother of Donna and fiancé Geoffrey LAW of Orillia and grandmother of Jorden and Jessica. Survived by her sister Gertrude BABSTOCK (late Dawson) of Newfoundland, brothers Frank POWELL (Vera) of Belleville, Lench POWELL (Maisie) of Newfoundland and many nieces, nephews and other family and Friends. Formerly of Florence and Chatham, passed away peacefully at Fairfield Park, Wallaceburg on Tuesday, May 17, 2005. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, daughter of the late George M. BROWN and Myrtle (ATKINSON) BROWN. Doris was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Chatham, the Austin Wright Chapter Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire, Past District Deputy and member of the Florence Rebekah Lodge, Rotarian Paul Harris Fellowship and an honourary member of Standardbred Canada.
Surviving are her husband Dr. John E. HUGHSON of Dresden, a son Robert and his wife Sandy NORTH of Dresden, daughters: Sheree NORTH of Toronto, Kym BABULA of Wallaceburg; a step-daughter Donna and her husband Bill ANDRUS; a stepson Ross and his wife Linda HUGHSON; grandchildren Robb NORTH, Scott NORTH, Thom NORTH, Andrew HAUGHIAN, Maura HAUGHIAN, Murray BABULA, Michelle BABULA stepgrandchildren Stephen ANDRUS and Cathy ANDRUS; sisters Elsie STINSON of Chatham, Norma STRANGWAY of Sarnia and several nieces and nephews. It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Peter BRADFORD on Wednesday, August 24, 2005, following a lengthy struggle with lung disease. He died peacefully at home with Mary Elaine, his devoted and loving wife of 17 years at his side. Peter was born in North Yorkshire on December 15, 1927. Graduating from Leeds University in 1949 with a Bachelor of Laws, Peter came to Canada settling in Toronto in 1950. He enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the insurance industry with Prudential. Peter was a man of principle and purpose, whose life was distinguished by an abiding interest in history, literature and music. A particular passion of Peter's was early jazz music and he was a serious collector of original recordings on 78. In his later years he built with his wife Mary an extensive library of first edition books, mainly in British diplomatic and political history.
Peter was also a fine athlete, playing cricket, soccer and squash in his youth at Wrekin College, Shropshire. Peter's lifelong passion for golf began with many rounds on the Masham Golf Club in a threesome with his father and brother Jack.
Peter was a beloved father and husband and will be deeply missed by his family. Peter is survived by wife Mary▼ Elaine▼ (née BABYN) daughter Kathy and the late Nick McCOMBIE, and son Neil and his wife Peggy▼ SATTLER; grandchildren, Liam, Jonathan and Emily nephews Stephen, Peter, Martin, and Augustus; nieces Anastasia and Victorie. Passed away peacefully at Trillium Health Centre, Mississauga on Saturday, February 26, 2005 at the age of 74. Beloved husband of Marianna, for 50 years. Much loved father of Josephine and her husband Michael BABYN, Luigi and his wife Elizabeth and Lino and his wife Laura. Loving grandfather of Stephen, Julia and Venesa. Antonio was a simple man with big dreams and a huge appreciation for what Canada offered him as a new immigrant in the early 50s. In his own humble way he was a very generous man, which the Port Credit area knew for over 40 years. He will be deeply missed as we carry on his legacy.
