At the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, February 23, 2005, Clarence W. AVEY of R.R.# 3 Tillsonburg, in his 84th year. (Clarence was retired from Ontario Hydro. He served overseas during World War 2 with the Canadian Armed Forces). Born in Norwich, February 28th, 1921, son of the late James AVEY and the late former Charlotte WILLIAMS. Survived by his wife of 53 years Meta (LAZENBY) AVEY, a daughter Diane and her husband Jack PAGE of Saint Thomas and a son Russell AVEY of Tillsonburg. Proud grandfather of Andrea PAGE. Also survived by two brothers: Kendrick and Beverly AVEY and two sisters: Marguerite and Pauline AVEY. Predeceased by a sister Phyllis and two brothers: Russell and Doug AVEY. Private family arrangements entrusted to the Verhoeve Funeral Home, 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg, (842-4238). Interment New Road Cemetery. Marion worked as a registered nurse for 43 years, was a veteran of World War 2 serving as a nursing sister, and was a member of Norwich Baptist Church. Though nursing was her profession, music was her passion, from singing, playing, teaching and conducting. Friends will be received at the Arn-Lockie Funeral Home, 45 Main St. W., Norwich on Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to commemorate Marion's life will be held at Norwich Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 8th at 11: 00 a.m. with Pastor Kent BABBEY officiating. At the Woodstock General Hospital on Thursday, April 21, 2005. Ethel A. YPMA (AVEY) (née SMYTH) of Woodstock in her 85th year. Beloved wife of the late Lloyd AVEY (1945) and James YPMA (1999.) Loved mother of Larry AVEY and his wife Sharon of Courtright, Ontario, Ron YPMA and his wife Shelley of Woodstock and Bonnie AVEY and her husband Robert HEDGES of Beachville. Ethel will be sadly missed by her 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and greatly missed by her sister-in-law Verna NEWELL, daughter-in-law Myra AVEY and niece Janice BUTCHER. She was the last surviving member of the Smyth family and was predeceased by her son John "Jack" AVEY and daughter Barb BENJAMIN. Friends may call at the R.D. Father and mentor of Jay (Meda) AVEY, Mitch (Meaghan) AVEY, Doyle (Cindy) OVERLAND and Michael (Lynn) OVERLAND. Dearly missed Papa of Maddison, Riley, Jordan, Samantha, Travis, Mason and Jordan. Dear sister of Ken of Ingersoll, Marguerite of Otterville, Bev and wife Ena of Norwich and sister-in-law to Meta of Tillsonburg and Stacey HINKS of Norwich. She will also be missed by her nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers Russell, Doug, Clarence, a sister Phyllis and a sister-in-law Marion. Pauline was a retired office manager for the Norwich Gazette and a member of the Burgessville Baptist Church. Friends will be received at The Arn-Lockie Funeral Home, 45 Main St. W. JOHNSON, Gerald " Jerry"
Of 199 Hope Street East, Tavistock passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 17, 2005 at Stratford General Hospital surrounded by his family. Jerry was born on October 15, 1925 in Sylvan, the son of the late William Thomas and Ella Chloe CAMPBELL) JOHNSON (1952.) Jerry was an avid sports enthusiast whose love of ball, hockey and racehorses provided many lasting memories and many wonderful Friendships. He was a member of Grace United Church in Tavistock and had also served his community as an active member of the Tavistock Men's Club and Board of Trade. Jerry farmed in his early years and later worked for Lewis Thomson and Sons in the fruit and vegetable business for 40 years. In his retirement, he and Pat spent their summers at their summer home, "Lakeside Resort", where he enjoyed his family, the birds, the sunsets and their many Friends. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Priscilla "Pat" (WEAVER) (LUPTON) JOHNSON, whom he married on June 29, 1979; his step-children, Glen and Joan LUPTON, Sue and Ken WETTLAUFER, Dick and Sharon LUPTON, Pat and Jim SMITH, Gail and Ted DONALDSON, Carol and Wayne FRASER his special grandchildren, Stephanie and Kristen LUPTON, Matt and Stephen WETTLAUFER, Fraser and Mac LUPTON, Jeff and Margie SMITH, Tricia and Jerry HAYNES, Mike and Lisa DONALDSON, Jen and Mike LOWES, Kim and Cecil AVEY, Kelly and Richard SMITH, Mark and Anita FRASER; his dear great-grandchildren, Ashley, Emily, Amber, Madison, Erika, Taylor, Owen, Jonathan, Andrew, Aaron, Aric, Riley, Liam and Owen; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Mervil and Jessie JOHNSON, James and Ruth JOHNSON, Alvin and Ruby JOHNSON, Enid JOHNSON and Mickey JOHNSON; "Weaver" in-laws, Barbara and Alan BALL, Bill WEAVER and Pauline McGILLVERY, Bob and Marie WEAVER and many nieces and nephews. Friends and loved ones will be received in the Francis Funeral Home, 77 Woodstock Street North, Tavistock on Tuesday, September 20th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Jerry's life will be held at Grace United Church, 116 Woodstock Street, South, Tavistock on Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at 2 p.m. The Reverend Marion Jackson TYLER will officiate. At Jerry's request, his body has been willed to the Department of Anatomy, University of Western, Ontario for Scientific study. Burial of cremated remains will take place at a later date in Knox Presbyterian Cemetery, Harrington.
