Carol Anna LANE
In loving memory of Carol Anna LANE, December 25, 1913 to January 1, 2004.
Carol LANE, a resident of Barrie Island, died at the Sudbury Regional Hospital, Saint Joseph's Site on Thursday, January 1, 2004 at the age of 90 years.
She was born in Mills Township, daughter of the late John L. and Amelia BAKER.
Carol was very active in her community. She was a member of the Ice Lake Church of Christ,
past member of the Gore Bay Horticultural Society, Barrie Island Women's Institute, Western Manitoulin Cancer Society all of which she served with passion, Postmistress of Barrie Island Post Office for 26 years and delivered mail with her husband Harold for many years. The Post Office was in their home on Barrie Island.
As a farmer's wife, Carol milked cows, grew a garden, picked strawberries, canned meat, knit socks, sewed dresses, scrubbed the schoolhouse floor, hand-quilted voraciously for every wedding, baby and Friendship. She loved to visit and share a cup of tea and a good laugh. She was an independent thinker and a capable community member. Senior Citizen of the Year 2003 of Barrie Island - she accepted the award with pride that she had belonged to such a supportive community all of her life. Her family and Friends celebrated her 90th birthday with her on August 30, 2003. She turned 90 on December 25, 2003, a week before her death.
Carol and Harold sent five children off to higher education and professions in the caring fields, Julia - Home Economist, Ted - Policeman, Gloria - Registered Nurse, Carolyn - High School Principal, Gracie - Registered Lab Technologist. She loved to read, to welcome the seasons, to watch the birds and to garden and grow flowers. Predeceased by husband Harold in 1980. Loving and loved mother of Julia and Rudy HILLMAN of Raleigh, North Carolina, Ted LANE and Lorraine WANE of Lucan, Gloria and Bruce TUCK of Ottawa, Carolyn LANE- ROCK and Bill ROCK of Sudbury and Manitoulin, and Grace and Bryan TURNER of Sault Ste. Marie.
Grandmother extraordinaire to Benjamin, Randall, and David HILLMAN of North Carolina, Stephen and Ian TUCK of Ottawa, Matthew and Carrie LANE of Lucan, Sara and Laurie TURNER of Sault Ste. Marie and Christopher and Jeffrey ROCK of Sudbury.
Great Grandmother of Gabriel, Timothy and Kevin HILLMANN, James LANE and Akira LANE Chaita, Jacob and Nathan TUCK and Zoe SMITH. They were Grandma Lane's greatest joy. Dear sister of Ted BAKER (Edith) of Iron Bridge and Joe BAKER (June) of Blind River and brother-in-law Mervin WHITFIELD of Sault Ste. Marie. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by infant son Thomas and sisters Mary RUNNALLS, Susie RUNNALLS, Jean WHITFIELD and brothers Charles BAKER, Kerwood BAKER and ASCHSA Baker.
Friends called the Culgin Funeral Home on Saturday, January 3, 2003. The funeral service was held in the William G. Turner Chapel on Sunday, January 4, 2003 with Pastor Les Cramp officiating. Spring interment in Gordon Cemetery.

Dorothy Evelyn PURVIS
Dorothy Evelyn (née LANGFORD) PURVIS passed away October 28, after a short battle with cancer, at the age of 91.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband William and her son William Edward (Bill). Dorothy will be deeply missed by her daughter in law Barbara, grand_son William Evan (Bill), great grandchildren Michelle, Shannon and their mother Maureen, grand_son Christopher Peter and his wife Sharon, great grandchildren Jessica, Brandon and Austin. Dorothy will be fondly remembered by numerous family and Friends in Calgary (Alberta), Sudbury, Gore Bay, Tobacco Lake, as well as others on the beautiful Manitoulin Island. Memorial service will be held at the All Saints Anglican Church on July 31, 2004 at 2 pm.

William Morris LANKTREE
In loving memory of William Morris LANKTREE, November 25, 1932 to January 17, 2004.
Morris LANKTREE, a resident of Gore Bay, died at the Manitoulin Health Centre, Mindemoya, on Saturday, January 17, 2004, at the age of 71 years.
He was born in Britainville, son of Jean (BOWSER) LANKTREE and the late Donald LANKTREE. Morris loved the outdoors, and he fulfilled this love by working on farms most all his life. He also enjoyed baseball, hunting, and going to the coffee shop with the guys. His greatest love, however, was spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Morris is survived by his mother Jean of Gore Bay, dear brother and brother-in-law of Eunice and Ben WILSON of Spring Bay, Lois and Jim McCORMICK of Spring Bay, Marie and Mike LOVE of Mindemoya, Bill and Sherran LANKTREE of Gore Bay, June and Lorne HAMM of Havelock and Jean Anne and Shelley THIBAULT of Gore Bay. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father Donald, sister Aileen WILLIAMS and brother Kenneth.
Friends called the Culgin Funeral Home on Sunday, January 18, 2004. The funeral service was conducted in the William G. Turner Chapel on Monday, January 19, 2004 with Mr. Erwin THOMPSON/THOMSON/TOMPSON/TOMSON officiating. Spring interment in Grimesthorpe Cemetery.

In Loving Memory of Ross Thane STILLWAUGH who passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2004 at St. Joseph's Sudbury Regional Hospital at the age of 85.
He is survived by his cherished wife Georgina STILLWAUGH (née BRITTEN.) Loving father of Eric and wife Liz STILLWAUGH of South Baymouth and Chris and husband Dwayne LANKTREE of South Baymouth. Beloved grandfather of Jason STILLWAUGH (wife Naz,) Matthew STILLWAUGH (wife Laurie), Darin LANKTREE (wife Marsha), Tammy BENNETT (husband Bill), and Angie LANKTREE (boyfriend Tom.) Will be missed by great-grandchildren Haley, Adam, Jake, Hannah, Ryan and Joey. Remembered by his sister June STILLWAUGH. Will be missed by nieces and nephews Liza, Gay (predeceased), Riley and Meggan. The visitation was held from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm Saturday, June 12 and the funeral service was at 3 pm Sunday, June 13, 2004, all at his home at 106 Church Street, South Baymouth. Cremation.

Eunice LANKTREE
Eunice LANKTREE of McKerrow passed away at the Espanola General Hospital on Saturday, October 23rd, 2004 in her 85th year. Beloved wife of Arden Lanktree of McKerrow and the late Oscar Springer. Loving mother of Frank Springer (wife Janet) of Wawa, Janet Berkley of Orleans and Eldon Springer of Timmins and step-children, Shirley Cook (husband Bill) of London, Doreen Tessier (husband Len) of Sudbury. Predeceased by Connie Cunningham (husband John) of London. Will be sadly missed by grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Very dear sister of Austin Stevens (wife Ella) of Espanola, Stanley Stevens of St. Joseph’s Island and Vera Smith (husband Bruce) of Hanover. Friends called at the Bourcier Funeral Home, Espanola on Monday, October 25th from 7 - 9 pm. Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, October 26th at 10 am from the United Church of Espanola with the Reverend Faye Stevens officiating. Interment in the Espanola Cemetery. If so desired, memorial tributes may be made to the United Church of Espanola.

Austin STEVENS of Espanola passed away at the Espanola Nursing Home on Friday, November 26th, 2004 in his 97th year.
Beloved husband of Ella (née COLLINS) STEVENS of Espanola. Dear son of the late William and Bertha (née BASSINGTHWAITE) STEVENS. Loving father of Bill (wife Myrtle) of Garson, Jean (Mrs.
Raymond McLEAN) of Sudbury, Joyce (Mrs. Charles TOBIN) of Xenia, Ohio and the late James STEVENS
(predeceased 1990) (wife Beverley) of Little Current and Max (predeceased 1998) wife Sue of Garson. Will be sadly missed by 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-granddaughters. Very dear brother of Stan of Richard’s Landing, Vera (Mrs. Bruce SMITH) of Hanover and the late Archie, Henry, Leonard, Harold, and Fred STEVENS, Edna BATMAN, Rena SKIPPEN and Eunice LANKTREE. A Memorial Service will be held at the United Church of Espanola on Friday, December 3rd at 1: 0.0 p.m. with the Reverend Faye STEVENS officiating. Interment of ashes in the Garson Cemetery.
