Some things in life,
are rotten and just unfair,
some people get a good run,
others just don't get their share.
You would do anything for anyone,
you would have given them the shirt of your back,
you were kind, generous and caring,
they were qualities that you never lacked.
Life doesn't last forever,
sometimes its cut way too short
there can be no other explanation,
other than it was simply your time.
And everything for a reason,
even though it's not that clear,
but your spirit is with me,
you will always be near.
Some people live their life,
but some don't get to leave their mark,
As a dear friend, you have left your mark in my memory,

Francis Xavier DEBASSIGE
In loving memory of Francis Xavier DEBASSIGE, December 3, 1929 - February 14, 2004 who was called by the Creator at the age of 74 years at the Mindemoya Hospital on February 14, 2004.
Francis was born on December 3, 1929 in M'Chigeeng. Francis leaves to celebrate his life, Regina (husband Albert BEAUDIN) of M'Chigeeng, Bernard (wife Jan) of Sault Ste Marie, Fred DEBASSIGE of Zhibaahaasing, (friend Marilyn), 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Foster father of Gloria, Elizabeth and Rolland, brothers Gus and Isadore Phillip DEBASSIGE and sister Mary Louise. Predeceased by his parents David and Cecile (WABANGE) DEBASSIGE and brothers James and Ernest. he is survived by many nieces and nephews. Francis was a kind and soft spoken man. In his retirement years, Francis enjoyed being an avid gardener, caring for horses and watching all sports on television. In his younger days Francis was awarded the Tom Longboat medal for his athletic achievements in hockey and baseball. Francis cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed visits where he could speak his first language (Ojibway). Francis faced his esophageal cancer with courage. Francis, affectionately known as "Frenchie" by his Friends and "Papa Francis" by his family will be greatly missed by everyone. At his request there will be no visitation. Cremation will take place followed by a Memorial Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, M'Chigeeng on Wednesday, February 18th, 2004 at 10 am with Father Robert FOLIOT officiating with burial of ashes following at M'Chigeeng Cemetery.

How many times did you struggle in life,
To take care of your children in spite of the strife.
You sacrificed yourself to provide for us all,
Never complaining - you stood very tall.
We daydreamed of riches so we could build you a home,
And a heavenly garden of your very own,
With roses and arbors and a waterfall too.
Oh, how we did wish we could have done this for you.
You now have a mansion on streets paved with gold,
No pain and sorrow...feeling young and not old.
We couldn’t have asked for a more loving mother,
Who gave so unselfishly...like no other.
We will miss you so very much through the years,
And at holiday time we will shed many tears.
We know where you are mom, you’re up there with Jesus,
Who never forsakes us and never will leave us.
He will comfort us now as we miss your soft touch,
For He knows how much we loved you...oh so very much.

Charles Jacob DEBASSIGE
In loving memory of Charlie DEBASSIGE who passed away at his nephew’s home in Chicago, Illinois on Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at the age of 59.
son of the late Lillian and Thomas DEBASSIGE, and father to Ricky (predeceased). He was also predeceased by Jerome, Aggie, Doug, Teddy, and Bobby. Surviving brothers and sisters are Bruno, Doreen, Mabel, Ross, Mildred, Mervin, Gladys and Bud. Sadly missed by many Friends, nieces and nephews. Funeral and sweet grass service were held at the Drake and son Funeral Home in Chicago, Illinois.

Theodore “Ted” CORBIERE
March 8, 1919 - October 11, 2004.
In loving memory of Ted Corbiere, a resident of Little Current Manor, who passed away on Monday, October 11, 2004 in his 85th year.
He was born in M’Chigeeng - son of the late George and Madeline CORBIERE (MISHIBINIJIMA.) Dearly loved husband for 60 years to the late Georgette CORBIERE (November 26, 2003.) Proud father of Madelyn (pre-deceased), Harold of Little Current, Allan (wife Monique) of Val Caron and Todd (wife Kathy) of Little Current. Proud Grampa of Kimberly KING, Angela, Allan Jr., Stephanie, Christina, Madelyn and Hannah. Proud Great Grampa of Melissa and Jessica. Dearly loved brother survived by his sisters, Lizzie CADA and Doris CADA of Toronto, sister-in-law
Irene CORBIERE of M’Chigeeng and brother-in-law Justin ROY of Mesa, Arizona. Pre-deceased by sisters and brothers, Joyce ROY, Sadie DEBASSIGE, Bernice DEBASSIGE, Mary LATIN, Leonard CORBIERE, Clayton CORBIERE, sister-in-law Eliza CORBIERE, and brothers-in-law Alfred CADA, Joe CADA, Ben LATIN and Ernest DEBASSIGE.
Ted was a part time Taxi driver and Suit Salesman also for many years. After 36 years of service, Ted retired from Inco at the age of 57. After retirement you often saw Ted operating his backhoe, enjoying every moment. He loved fishing, moose and deer hunting with his nephews and Friends. He was a great cardplayer and enjoyed spending time with his family. Quite often, Ted enjoyed conversation in regards to the logging days throughout the Manitoulin and Northshore district in his early teenage years.
Friends called at the M’Chigeeng First Nation Complex after 1: 00pm on Wednesday, October 13, 2004. The funeral mass was celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church on Friday, October 15, 2004 at 11 am. Interment in M’Chigeeng Cemetery. Officiating Priest Father Foliot S.J.

Vincent DEBASSIGE
In loving memory of Vincent DEBASSIGE, a resident of M’Chigeeng First Nation, who died at the Manitoulin Health Centre, Little Current on Saturday, October 23, 2004 at the age of 88 years. He was born at West Bay, son of the late Joseph and Mary Louise (McLeod) DEBASSIGE. Vincent had worked as a custodian at Lakeview School for many years. He also farmed, and had a variety of interests. Among his favourite pastimes were reading history documents and Native documentary histories. He also enjoyed fishing, wood carving, making maple syrup and he enjoyed music. He was a very accomplished clarinet and trumpet player as well as playing a variety of other instruments and playing in a classical band. Vincent’s beloved wife Margaret Mary (Migwans) DEBASSIGE predeceased in 1997. Loving and loved father of Alfred DEBASSIGE, wife Gladys, Stanley DEBASSIGE, wife Donna, Nick DEBASSIGE, friend Alice, Norma Corbiere, friend Charlie, Doris DEBASSIGE, friend Ronnie, Ina Panamick, Greg DEBASSIGE, Joanne DEBASSIGE, friend Amadeo, Patrick DEBASSIGE, Marjorie Webkamigad and Lyla Kinoshameg, husband Ray. Proud grandfather of 24 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers John, James, Lazar, Lawrence, Daniel, Wilfred Taibossigai and sisters Philomène Samson, Clare Cada, Elizabeth Peltier, Adeline DEBASSIGE and Catherine Johnson. Friends called at the M’Chigeeng Complex after 1 pm on Monday. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, M’Chigeeng on Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at 11 am with Fr. In loving memory of Margaret WAHSQUONAIKEZHIK who passed away peacefully at Wikwemikong Nursing Home on Saturday, November 27, 2004 at the age of 84 years.
Born September 17, 1921 to Theresa CORBIERE and Edward WASSEGIJIG (both predeceased).
Married John WAHSQUONAIKEZHIK (predeceased September 25, 1976.) Margaret was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, making braided rugs, bich bark canoes, picking sweet grass, making hot pads, picking wild berries and preserving them, and going out to pick herbs for medicine. She loved going to church. Margaret raised her own 15 children plus two adopted as well as many other nieces and nephews and grandchildren. Survived by oldest daughter Theresa HASWOOD (husband Tully) of Rock Springs, New Mexico, Christina SINOBERT (husband Cecil of Sagamok, Bernadette RECOLLET (husband Stanley) of Wikwemikong, Josette WAHSQUONAIKEZHIK (husband Brad) of Winnipeg, Jean DEBASSIGE (friend Andy) of Sudbury, Sons Ernest (wife Annette) of Keshena, Wisconsin, Gabriel (wife Laurie) of Neopit, Wisconsin, Francis (wife Beverly) of Sault Ste. Marie, Luke (wife Tara) of Fort Alexander, Manitoba, Christopher (wife Carol) of Sudbury, Tina McCURLEY (husband Ken) of Birch Island. Predeceased by daughters Rita, Annette, Bertha, Celina, Patricia, Ida, and son Adam. Beloved sister of Annie CORBIERE, Mary FOX (predeceased,) Elizabeth DEBASSIGE (predeceased.) Dear sister in law of Archie Francis WAHSQUONAIKEZHIK. She is the grandmother of 70, the great grandmother of 80 and the great great grandmother of 11. Visititation is from 7: 00 pm Monday at Birch Island Community Centre. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am, Thursday, December 2, 2004 at St. Gabriel Lalement Church, Birch Island. The family received Friends for visitation at Butcher Family Funeral Home, 5399 Main St. S., Erin, on Saturday evening, 7 - 9 pm, and Sunday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm. Funeral service was held on Monday, October 11th at 1 pm at Saint Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 81 Main Street, Hillsburgh, with Reverend Wayne MADDOCK officiating.
