Violet died peacefully at her home on October 14, 2003, in her
71st year. Beloved wife of André for 48 years. Devoted mother
of Judy and Robert. Loving mother-in-law of Barbara. Dear sister
of Kathy (Nador) and Agnes (Margittai). Doting grandmother of
Emily, Avery and Amanda. Violet was the cohesive force of her
family. She was a pioneer amongst women, a holocaust survivor
and escapee of the Hungarian revolution of 1956. Violet emigrated
to Canada with her husband and established a new life pursuing
a successful 30-year career as a software engineer at Nortel
with numerous accomplishments until her retirement. Violet's
sensitivity, compassion, work ethic and ambitions set an example
for all those who knew her. Her strong spirit was beaten by a
long fight with cancer. Special thanks to Stephanie, Mila, Faye
and the oncology support staff at Mount Sinai Hospital for their
compassionate care. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday,
October 15, 2003 at 2: 00 p.m. at Steeles Memorial Chapel, 350
Steeles Avenue West.

Mary McQuay, a resident of Mindemoya, died at her residence on
Saturday, May 3, 2003 at the age of 87 years. She was born in
Peterborough, daughter of the late George and Mabel
(FOLEY)
TURNBULL.
Mary graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1942 and worked in hospitals
in Kingston, where she met Jack
McQUAY, who was an intern at the same
hospital. They married in 1944, and lived in Kingston before moving
to Mindemoya in 1947. Jack began his medical practice in Mindemoya
and Mary assisted for many years running the office.
Mary had a warm, friendly manner and enjoyed socializing with her
many Friends. She will be remembered for her dedication to her
family and to her community. Mary participated in and supported many
community activities over the years. She was accomplished in sewing,
knitting and baking, and often contributed her home-made items to
bazaars and bake sales. She volunteered for the Red Cross, the
Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, and the ambulance
service. She enjoyed gardening, and participated in the Mindemoya
Horticultural Society flower shows in years past. She was active in
the local Women's Institute. An enthusiastic member of the Mindemoya
Curling Club, she continued curling until she was well into her 80s,
while in the summer she enjoyed golfing. She was an avid bridge
player in the local bridge club. She was a member of St. Francis of
Assisi Anglican Church, where she sang in the choir for many years,
and participated in the life of the parish through the Anglican
Church Women's group. Always interested in crafts, she created many
beautiful pieces in pottery and paper tole crafts.

Denise OLMSTEAD, a resident of the Manitoulin Lodge, Gore Bay and
formerly of Mississauga, died at the Mindemoya Hospital, on Friday,
December 20, 2002 at the age of 77 years. She was born in London,

Denise has been an R.N. in the R.A.F. and also at the Scarborough
Centenary Hospital and the Trillium Hospital, Mississauga. She had
been a very active person, having been a member of the Girl Guides
Lion's Club, and had been Co-founder of the Parents Without Partners
Chapter in her area. She was fondly referred to as "the Duchess",
and will be remembered as a lady who kept others organized. Her
greatest joys were being involved with her many Friends, her family
and PWP.
Through these relationships, she was an inspiration and
mentor to many. Denise never "gave up" and her inspiration and love
of life will be cherished by family and all who knew her.

Irene SLOSS, a resident of Evansville, died as the result of a car
accident on Friday, March 14, 2003 at the age of 71 years. She was

CAMPBELL, and had trained as a secretary, but her life was
working alongside Marvin on their farm. She was a hard working lady,
who enjoyed cooking and having company visit, but her true love in
life was her family. Irene was a loving and caring wife, mother,

Rose DEBASSIGE, a resident of the Wikwemikong Nursing Home, passed
away at the Nursing Home on Saturday, April 5, 2003 at the age of 83 years.
She was born at West Bay, daughter of the late Jeremiah and

MIGWANS, and had lived at M'Chigeeng all her life.
She had worked as a housekeeper and cook at Lodges for many
years. She enjoyed making blankets and knitting, but her favourite
pastimes were watching hockey on television and watching her boys and
grandchildren play hockey, playing bingo and gardening, and growing
her flowers, which she planted up until 2 years ago. Rose was a loved and
loving mother, grandmother and friend and will be sadly missed by all.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Andrew in 1984. Dearly

M'Chigeeng First Nation, began his spiritual journey through the
western door, on Saturday, August 9, 2003 at the age of 56 years. He

Phillip worked in M'Chigeeng teaching computers at Kenjgewin Teg, a
member of the Economic Development Committee and worked with the
Union of Ontario Indians as well as Metis Nation of Ontario. He also
enjoyed band politics especially the First Nation Governance Act.
Phillip enjoyed playing the trumpet, playing lotteries especially
Keno and horse racing. He was a great community worker as he helped
many work in their garden, visited elders, enjoyed his time at the
maple sugar camp and helped others with house construction and
renovations. This familiar sight walking in the neighbourhood or on
his way to Gus's store to play his numbers, will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

founded and operated Michael Follett Consulting Inc.
