FÖLDES, Violet (Ibi, Ibolya) (née KRAUSZ)
Violet died peacefully at her home on October 14, 2003, in her 71st year. Beloved wife of André for 48 years. Devoted mother of Judy and Robert. Loving mother-in-law of Barbara. Dear sister of Kathy (Nador) and Agnes (Margittai). Doting grandmother of Emily, Avery and Amanda. Violet was the cohesive force of her family. She was a pioneer amongst women, a holocaust survivor and escapee of the Hungarian revolution of 1956. Violet emigrated to Canada with her husband and established a new life pursuing a successful 30-year career as a software engineer at Nortel with numerous accomplishments until her retirement. Violet's sensitivity, compassion, work ethic and ambitions set an example for all those who knew her. Her strong spirit was beaten by a long fight with cancer. Special thanks to Stephanie, Mila, Faye and the oncology support staff at Mount Sinai Hospital for their compassionate care. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at 2: 00 p.m. at Steeles Memorial Chapel, 350 Steeles Avenue West.

Mary CHAMBERS McQUAY
In loving memory of Mary Chambers McQUAY, April 9, 1916 to May 3, 2003.
Mary McQuay, a resident of Mindemoya, died at her residence on Saturday, May 3, 2003 at the age of 87 years. She was born in Peterborough, daughter of the late George and Mabel (FOLEY) TURNBULL.
Mary graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1942 and worked in hospitals in Kingston, where she met Jack McQUAY, who was an intern at the same hospital. They married in 1944, and lived in Kingston before moving to Mindemoya in 1947. Jack began his medical practice in Mindemoya and Mary assisted for many years running the office. Mary had a warm, friendly manner and enjoyed socializing with her many Friends. She will be remembered for her dedication to her family and to her community. Mary participated in and supported many community activities over the years. She was accomplished in sewing, knitting and baking, and often contributed her home-made items to bazaars and bake sales. She volunteered for the Red Cross, the Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, and the ambulance service. She enjoyed gardening, and participated in the Mindemoya Horticultural Society flower shows in years past. She was active in the local Women's Institute. An enthusiastic member of the Mindemoya Curling Club, she continued curling until she was well into her 80s, while in the summer she enjoyed golfing. She was an avid bridge player in the local bridge club. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Anglican Church, where she sang in the choir for many years, and participated in the life of the parish through the Anglican Church Women's group. Always interested in crafts, she created many beautiful pieces in pottery and paper tole crafts.
Dearly loved and loving wife of Dr. Jack McQUAY. Loved mother of Marilyn (husband Martin CHILTON) of Kingston, Paul (fiancée Marion CARROLL) of Fort McMurray, Alta, Janice McQUAY of Toronto and Mindemoya and Betty McQUAY of Toronto. Also survived by Athena McQUAY of Edmonton. Proud grandmother of Peter McQUAY, Jane HOEKSTRA (husband Terry,) Stephen McQUAY and Jim CHILTON and great grandchildren Ethan, Sydney and Liam. Dear sister of Reta CONRAN, Gladys MITCHELL (husband Charlie,) Bruce TURNBULL (wife Alice,) Norma RAYCRAFT (husband Glen,) Billie McNEIL and brother-in-law Earl HARMAN. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters and brothers Marjorie McLEOD, Walter (Bud) TURNBULL, Ted TURNBULL, Gwen HARMAN and sister-in-law and brothers-in-law Marie TURNBULL, Alan McLEOD, Harold CONRAN and Gene McNEIL. In loving memory of Denise Catherine OLMSTEAD, October 25, 1925 to December 20, 2002.
Denise OLMSTEAD, a resident of the Manitoulin Lodge, Gore Bay and formerly of Mississauga, died at the Mindemoya Hospital, on Friday, December 20, 2002 at the age of 77 years. She was born in London, England, daughter of the late Wm. Timothy and Anne (BUCKLAND) WALKER. Denise has been an R.N. in the R.A.F. and also at the Scarborough Centenary Hospital and the Trillium Hospital, Mississauga. She had been a very active person, having been a member of the Girl Guides Lion's Club, and had been Co-founder of the Parents Without Partners Chapter in her area. She was fondly referred to as "the Duchess", and will be remembered as a lady who kept others organized. Her greatest joys were being involved with her many Friends, her family and PWP. Through these relationships, she was an inspiration and mentor to many. Denise never "gave up" and her inspiration and love of life will be cherished by family and all who knew her. Dearly loved and loving mother of Gloria and Bill KENNEDY of London and Terry and Rosanne OLMSTEAD of Gore Bay. Proud grandmother of Jessica, Jason and Jennifer. In loving memory of Lawrence Stephen MIGWANS, September 26, 1925 to January 13, 2003.
Larry MIGWANS, a resident of the Wellness Centre, M'Chigeeng, passed away at the Manitoulin Health Centre, Mindemoya on Monday, January 13, 2003 at the age of 77 years. He was born at M'Chigeeng, son of the late David and Madelene (DEBASSIGE) MIGWANS. Larry joined the army at the age of 16 and served overseas in World War 2, and was a member of Branch #177 Royal Canadian Legion, Little Current. He also enjoyed playing the violin and guitar, and working in his garden. Predeceased by his wife Desira (BEBONING) MIGWANS. Loving father of Mabel NOLAND, Caroline BEBONING, Patrick BEBONING, Martina MIGWANS, Lorraine, Patsy, Carol, Kerry and Brenda WEMIGWANS. Loved grandfather of several grandchildren and great grandchildren. In loving memory of M. Irene Sloss, December 1, 1931 to March 14, 2003.
Irene SLOSS, a resident of Evansville, died as the result of a car accident on Friday, March 14, 2003 at the age of 71 years. She was born in Little Current, daughter of the late Andrew and Sarah (MIDDAUGH) CAMPBELL, and had trained as a secretary, but her life was working alongside Marvin on their farm. She was a hard working lady, who enjoyed cooking and having company visit, but her true love in life was her family. Irene was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Many fond memories will be cherished by all who knew her.
Dearly loved wife of Marvin SLOSS of Evansville. Kirstin NOON, a resident of Thornton and formerly Keswick, passed away as the result of a car accident on Friday, March 14, 2003 at the age of 13 years. She was the daughter of the late Ed NOON and Victoria (SLOSS) NOON. Kirstin was a very compassionate girl who loved to ride her bike, read fantasy books and loved dragons. She was a popular girl, having won the "Sunshine of the Year" award at school. A true source of pride and joy for her family and loved by all who knew her.

Rose DEBASSIGE, a resident of the Wikwemikong Nursing Home, passed away at the Nursing Home on Saturday, April 5, 2003 at the age of 83 years.
She was born at West Bay, daughter of the late Jeremiah and Mary Jane (CORBIERE) MIGWANS, and had lived at M'Chigeeng all her life. She had worked as a housekeeper and cook at Lodges for many years. She enjoyed making blankets and knitting, but her favourite pastimes were watching hockey on television and watching her boys and grandchildren play hockey, playing bingo and gardening, and growing her flowers, which she planted up until 2 years ago. Rose was a loved and
loving mother, grandmother and friend and will be sadly missed by all.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Andrew in 1984. Funeral services for Mr. Rick FRANCIS, age 47 years, who died Saturday, May 17, 2003, were held on Tuesday evening in the Blake Funeral Chapel in Thunder Bay, ON, led by Reverend Larry KROKER of Saint Anne's Church. Eulogies were offered by Kevin MAIN, Jaymie PENNY, Paul FRANCIS, Jennifer O'NEIL and Tamara BROWN. Numerous co-workers from the city of Thunder Bay, fellow coaches from minor hockey, neighbors, Friends and family attended the service. Removal was then made to Little Current, for visitation and Funeral Mass in Saint Bernard's Church celebrated by Reverend Bert FOLIOT S.J. on Thursday, May 22, 2003. The readings were proclaimed by Celina McGREGOR, Jennifer KEYS, Raquel KOENIG and PollyAnna McNALLY. Eulogies were offered by Kerry FRANCIS, Raymond FRANCIS, Jenny McGRAW, Paul FRANCIS and Ruthanne FRANCIS. The offertory gifts were presented by Kerry and Brenda FRANCIS. The Soloist was Rosa PITAWANAKWAT- BURK/BURKE accompanied by the organist Thomas NESHIKWE. Services were largely attended by long time Friends, members of Saint Bernard Church, and family. Honourary Pallbearers were Jeff FRANCIS and David LARSON. The Active Pallbearers were Allan ESHKAWKOGAN, Paul FRANCIS Jr., Robert McGRAW Jr., Craig KOENIG, Mike McNALLY and Chris KEYS.

Phillip Howard DEBASSIGE
In loving memory of Phillip Howard DEBASSIGE, February 5, 1947 to August 9, 2003. "Lover of Horses" Phillip DEBASSIGE, a resident of M'Chigeeng First Nation, began his spiritual journey through the western door, on Saturday, August 9, 2003 at the age of 56 years. He was born in Mindemoya, son of Vincent DEBASSIGE and the late Margaret (MIGWANS) DEBASSIGE.
Phillip worked in M'Chigeeng teaching computers at Kenjgewin Teg, a member of the Economic Development Committee and worked with the Union of Ontario Indians as well as Metis Nation of Ontario. He also enjoyed band politics especially the First Nation Governance Act. Phillip enjoyed playing the trumpet, playing lotteries especially Keno and horse racing. He was a great community worker as he helped many work in their garden, visited elders, enjoyed his time at the maple sugar camp and helped others with house construction and renovations. This familiar sight walking in the neighbourhood or on his way to Gus's store to play his numbers, will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Born February 20, 1926 to Thomas and Elize SAINT_JULES of Blind River (both predeceased.) Married Ted CORBIERRE, son of George and Madeline of M'Chigeeng (both predeceased). Ted now resides in the Centennial Manor, formerly of Honora. Georgette and Ted owned and operated the gas station and store in Honora, Manitoulin Island. Loving mum of Harold, Allan and wife Monique, Todd and wife Kathy, Madeline (predeceased). Special grandma of Angela, Stephanie, Kristie, Allan Jr., Madelyn, Hannah and Kimberly. Will be sadly missed by great-granddaughters Melissa and Jessica of Orangeville. Remembered by many nieces and nephews in Blind River, M'Chigeeng, Sudbury, Toronto, and Ottawa. Beatrice ENSE, a resident of M'Chigeeng, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at the age of 71 years.
She was born in West Bay, daughter of the late Alexi and Sadie CORBIERE) DEBASSIGE. Beatrice had many interests and hobbies, which included quilting and knitting, playing bingo, cooking, going to casinos, and she loved to fish and to sing. Her greatest joy and pleasure was her family and spending time with them. A loving and loved sister, mother and friend, she will be sadly missed, but many memories will be cherished. Predeceased by her husband Harold, son Floyd, brother Norman, sister Eliza, grand_son Brian and great grandchild Courtney. Surviving are one sister Gina and sister-in-law Elizabeth, and children, Martin, wife Justeen, Sadie, husband Eldridge, daughter-in-law Janette, Gerald, wife Debbie, Geraldine, husband Bill, Ron, Ken, Abby, Norma, Elsie and Jay, wife Missy. Survived also by Raymond and Ruth ACE. Proud grandmother of Elvis, Kyle, Beatrice, Nancy, Randolf, Matha, Ramona, Jeremy, Robin, Darryl, Whitney, Floyd, Phoenix, Jeff, Celina, Daphne, Darren Jr., Gerard, Shane, Jared, and 14 great grandchildren. FOLLETT, Michael
Peacefully, at the Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family, Michael died on Thursday, July 24, 2003. He was 59 years of age.
Beloved husband of Sheila; loving father of Amanda and Andrea FOLLETT; step-father of Christa and Jodie HOY, Grant, Carolyn and Susie PARKS. Pappy to Roelien and Danielle PARKS. Brother of Peter (Lisa), and stepsister Lynne (Sandy).
He was predeceased by his wife Mary (LEVOIR,) August 12, 1996, his parents John and Margaret (TAILOR/TAYLOR) FOLLETT and stepmother Peggy FOLLETT.
Mike was well known in the business community. He was Past President of Kitchener-Waterloo and Area Chamber of Commerce, a member of The Conservative Business Association and the Kitchener-Conestoga Rotary Club and served on the board of the K-W Art Gallery. Mike is a member of St. George's of Forest Hill Anglican Church. He founded and operated Michael Follett Consulting Inc.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Mike with his family at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo from 2-4 and 7-9pm on Sunday. A service to celebrate Mike's life will be held at St. George's of Forest Hill Anglican Church, 321 Fischer Hallman Road East, Kitchener on Monday, July 28, 2003 at 1pm. with Reverend Mark GLADDING officiating.
