JACOBS, Katherine -- Passed away peacefully in Brampton, November 8, 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Ella Virginia BLAKE of Saskatoon, granddaughters Katherine and Lynn BLAKE, sister Jean (John) WISE and family of Shreveport, Louisiana. She was predeceased by her husband, George Ansley JACOBS, of Kingston, by her parents, and by her sons-in-law, John BLAKE and Ed KENNEDY. Born in Maryland, U.S.A., she came to Canada as a bride in 1941. With her husband, she was a founding member of St. Andrew's-by-the-Lake United Church, Kingston. She taught at Frontenac Secondary in Kingston, and then moved to Toronto in 1970 to teach at Parkdale Collegiate until her retirement to Brampton. She was a resident at Holland Christian Homes, Brampton, and was a member of Outreach International Church. Special thanks are given to the nurses and staff of Holland Christian Homes for their loving care and to Joanna DYKSTRA and the Outreach International community. A memorial service will be held in Brampton Tuesday, November 26,7: 30 p.m. at Holland Christian Homes and in Saskatoon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Outreach International (5975 Grossbeak Dr., Mississauga, Ontario, L5N 6B3) or to Faith Manor, Holland Christian Homes (7900 McLaughlin Rd. S., Brampton, Ontario, L6Y 5A7.)

ZALKIN, Alex -- Passed away on December 18, 2002 at Toronto General Hospital, in his 86th year, after a long and brave fight. Cherished husband and best friend for 56 years of Ruth. Loving and devoted father of Donna (Charles ROSENFELD) and Gail. Alex was deeply loved by his grandchildren Marc and Laura, Eric and great-granddaughter Shana. A dedicated brother of Sydney (Bernice,) Sylvia WISEMAN, Doreen (Booie LASH,) the late Louis and the late Lil TITLE. Alex is remembered at this time by his many nieces, nephews, family and Friends. Many thanks to Dr. Leonard SCHWARTZ for his wonderful care throughout the years and to all of the doctors and nurses at Toronto General Hospital for their support. Funeral Service from Steeles Memorial Chapel, 350 Steeles Ave. W., Thornhill at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 19. Interment Mount Sinai Cemetery, Sunnyside Lodge Section. Shiva will be held at 73 Peter Andrew Cres., Thornhill. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Heart Fund c/o Toronto General Hospital, 416-340-3935.

CLARKE, Florence Elizabeth ''Betty'' -- On Sunday, November 17, 2002 at The Scarborough General Hospital, Betty passed away after a lengthy illness in her 73rd year. Betty was an active member of the United Handicapped Groups of Ontario and Toronto Orthopaedic Recreation Centre Headquarters. She was among those who organized Rostrevor Holiday project. Always organized events gathering Friends for meals and shopping. Survived by her sister Dorothy JAMES of Etobicoke, brother Bob CLARKE of Clarkson, sister Suzanne (Reg) HARDING of Woodbridge and her sister Janis CLARKE of Scarborough. Betty will be missed and fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, her Friends Donna, Brenda, Sally, Bill, Mary, Bernice, Herb, Richard, Lorraine and a multitude of others (sorry too many Friends to mention). The family would like to thank the Nursing team of the Scarborough General Hospital for the exceptional care they gave to Betty during her stay. They are truly a remarkable collection of very fine folks. The family will receive Friends at the Highland Funeral Home, 3280 Sheppard Ave. East (just west of Warden), Scarborough on Wednesday, November 27th from 2-4 p.m. for a gathering and reception in the Arbor Lounge to celebrate Betty's life, storytelling and memory sharing will begin at 2: 30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Betty's family requests donations to be made in memory of Betty to the Children's Wish Foundation, Unit 30, 1730 McPherson Court, Pickering, Ontario L1W 3E6. 1-800-267- WISH (9474,) would be appreciated.
