Effie Isobel
{McQUARRIE}
BAUMAN/BOWMAN
In loving memory of Effie
BAUMAN/BOWMAN,
March 2, 1914-March 10, 2002
Effie BAUMAN/BOWMAN, a resident of Gore Bay, died at the Manitoulin Health Centre,
Little Current, on Sunday March 10, 2002 at the age of 88 years.
She was the fifth child of the late Ronald and Agnes
{ALLEN}
McQUARRIE.
Effie attended both public school and high school in Gore
Bay and Teacher Training at North Bay Normal School in 1931 and 32.
She taught in Pleasant Valley (formerly Pig Tantrum), Gore Bay,
Toronto and Newmarket. On July 8, 1936 she married Marven
BAUMAN/BOWMAN,
and after 44 years away, retired to Gore Bay. Effie was a vital,
active presence in her communities. She was an adored primary school
teacher, a superb cook, who entertained weekly right up until the
time she entered the hospital, a wife and mother and kind friend to
all. She was a founding member of the Senior Citizen Club, serving
as secretary for many years, until her failed vision forced her
resignation. She served on the Library Board and was instrumental in
starting the
CNIB
Help
Group.
Everyone who met her, recognized her
as a special person, one who saw only the best in others. She
possessed a marvelous sense of humour and great inner strength.
Effie was the oldest member of All Saints Anglican Church. She was
christened and married in the church and her wish was to be buried
from there as well.
Dearly loved wife of almost 66 years of Marven. Loving mother of
Mary Jean and Lachlan
MUIR, of Gore Bay, Carolyn and Bryan
OSTROWSKI

nieces and nephews.
