Husband charged in beating death of Toronto woman
By Jason MARKUSOFF, page A19
A Scarborough woman severely beaten at her Oakmeadow Boulevard home on Christmas Day died yesterday morning in hospital of her injuries.
Mel (Emilio) BRUNI was arrested on Wednesday. He had been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault, but the charges were changed to second-degree murder. Mr. BRUNI will appear in court today.
Police arrived at the house in the afternoon to find Carmela BRUNI, badly wounded and in distress, with a head injury.
They rushed her to Sunnybrook and Women's Health Sciences Centre, where she died.
The couple's three-year-old son was in the house when paramedics arrived and was not injured.
The child has been taken in by relatives, police said.
Mel and Carmela BRUNI worked at Bell Canada in the information technology department, neighbours said.
Mr. BRUNI and his wife drove to work together every morning. They would occasionally chat with neighbours in the driveway but kept largely to themselves, the neighbour said.
Another homicide investigation began yesterday after police were called to an apartment block on Danforth Road about 5 p.m.
Inside, they found the body of a man who had been stabbed. The man's identity is being withheld until his family can be notified.

In Loving Memory
BRUSCHETTO
In loving memory of a dear beloved son and brother, Ron, who was taken from us so suddenly 30 years ago, December 26, 1972 at the age of 13 years.
Those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed, still very dear.
Your memory is our keepsake,
With which we'll never part,
God has you in His keeping,
We have you in our hearts.
Lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his Mom and Dad, Yvonne, Ed, Paul and Marion.
