BAUMAN/BOWMAN,
March 2, 1914-March 10, 2002
Effie BAUMAN/BOWMAN, a resident of Gore Bay, died at the Manitoulin Health Centre,
Little Current, on Sunday March 10, 2002 at the age of 88 years.
She was the fifth child of the late Ronald and Agnes
{ALLEN}
McQUARRIE.
Effie attended both public school and high school in Gore
Bay and Teacher Training at North Bay Normal School in 1931 and 32.
She taught in Pleasant Valley (formerly Pig Tantrum), Gore Bay,
Toronto and Newmarket. On July 8, 1936 she married Marven
BAUMAN/BOWMAN,
and after 44 years away, retired to Gore Bay. Effie was a vital,
active presence in her communities. She was an adored primary school
teacher, a superb cook, who entertained weekly right up until the
time she entered the hospital, a wife and mother and kind friend to
all. She was a founding member of the Senior Citizen Club, serving
as secretary for many years, until her failed vision forced her
resignation. She served on the Library Board and was instrumental in
starting the
CNIB
Help
Group.
Everyone who met her, recognized her
as a special person, one who saw only the best in others. She
possessed a marvelous sense of humour and great inner strength.
Effie was the oldest member of All Saints Anglican Church. She was
christened and married in the church and her wish was to be buried
from there as well.
Dearly loved wife of almost 66 years of Marven. Loving mother of

Fondly remembered by a large extended family of
nieces and nephews.
Friends called the Culgin Funeral Home Monday March 11, 2002. The
funeral service was held at All Saints Anglican Church on Tuesday
March 12, 2002 with Reverend Lind
WHITE/WHYTE officiating, assisted by Rev.
Rhonda HIRST.

VELDHUYZEN
December 11, 1943 to September 12, 2002.
Elsie VELDHUYZEN, a resident of R.R.#1 Evansville, passed away at the
Mindemoya Hospital on Thursday, September 12, 2002 at the age of 58
years after a lengthy illness. She was born in Deckerville,
Michigan, daughter of the late Irvin and Nettie
(ALLEN)
SWOFFER.
Elsie moved with her parents to Port Huron at an early age, and
attended grade school and Junior College in Port Huron, then to
Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, where she earned her
teaching degree. She then returned to Filmore School in Port Huron
to teach in the school she was educated at. In 1971, she married Ben
and together they moved to Wyoming, Ont., then in 1984 came to
Manitoulin. She and Ben farmed in Mills, as well she was the tax
collector for Mills Township, and after the amalgamation with Burpee,
became assistant to the clerk for Burpee Mills. Elsie had many
interests, including crocheting and needlework, and was very involved
with the 4H Club for 12 years, leading the group and was president of
the association for many years. A loving and loved wife, mother, and
friend, she will be sadly missed, but many memories will be cherished.

loved mother of Fred and his wife Andrea of Havelock, Allen and his
companion Laura of Burlington and Janet, and her friend Roger. Dear
sister of Raymond and his wife Lynn of Port Huron. Also survived by
a number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by infant brother, Ivan.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at the Burpee Mills Complex, on
Saturday, September 21 at 3: 00 p.m. If so desired, donations to the
Cancer Society would be appreciated, and may be arranged through the
Culgin Funeral Home, Gore Bay, 705-282-2270.
