MARCOCCHIO, Josephine -- June 8, 1924 - November 14, 2002. Our Mother slipped away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. We were so blessed to have had such a loving, kind and generous Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Sister. Mom was a member of the Toronto Real Estate Board for over 25 years - one of the first Italian women agents in Toronto. She enjoyed entertaining, sewing, crochet, music, dancing and playing cards. Mom never knew the words ''No'' or ''I can't''. At an early age she was interpreting for Italian immigrants and in later years she devoted herself to finding jobs and playing matchmaker. Always quick with a smile, joke and open heart. She has left us a legacy and was a mentor to us all. Beloved wife of the late Guido (1990). Predeceased by her parents Enrico and Grazia IANTORNO who immigrated to Canada in 1922. Cherished Mother of Loretta (Vincent STABILE) and Joanne (Joao PIQUES.) MUSZYNSKI, Joseph -- On December 26, 2002, ''Papa'' Joe joined his parents, John and Michalina (KORCZOWSKA,) and his sister Brones STANKIEWICZ (Joe) in heaven. He was born in Montreal on June 18, 1917, and raised in the Polish community. He attended Loyola College and later joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was stationed in England, attached to the Royal Air Force, as a Flying Officer and flew bombing missions over Germany. After the war, he married his sweetheart, Margaret McGURK, and worked for Robert Mitchell Company. In 1950, the family moved to Scarborough, when he became a Manager for Ekco Products Canada and from which he retired in 1982. He became more active in the community by volunteering for the Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Salvation Army, and Meals on Wheels. At his parish, where he and his wife were honoured last year as one of the original families, he organized ShareLife, was head Minister of Hospitality, a lector, a Minister of the Holy Eucharist, and organized fairs, bingos, and Seniors groups. He organized the Remembrance Day services at the church and was proud to carry the flag to the altar. His good works were not unrewarded as he was presented with the Caring Canadian Award in 1999 by Her Excellency the Governor-General, Adrienne CLARKSON. But 'for all his volunteering, it came second to his family. With 5 children, 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, ''Papa'' was often at two and sometimes three rinks, soccer fields or baseball diamonds a day watching them. He was never a shy person and in fact, it was often said he should have been a politician as he ''worked'' a room, chatting with strangers, and especially children, as if they were long-time Friends. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife of 57 years, Margaret, and son Michael and wife Nancy (BAREFOOT) and their children Jason, Ryan and Leanne; daughter Susan and husband Dan (PHILLIPS) and their children Ashley (and Sean DONALDSON,) Kyle and his wife Sarah (WILSON,) Kirsten and husband Jack (CRILLY) and their children Keegan and Keira; daughter Joanne and husband Paul (COUNTRYMAN) and their children Joseph, Adam and Michael; daughter Karen and husband Tom (KLUGE) and their children Jordan and Nicholas; and daughter Diane and husband Rick (McWATTERS) and their children Matthew, Justin and Tyler. She is survived by two sons, Peter BARKER (Pat) of Barrie, Ontario and Gerry BARKER (Barbara) of Wasaga Beach, Ontario and Sarasota; six grandchildren, Richard BARKER (Carol) Toronto, Ontario, Susan Barker FOGELS (Alvis) of Holland Centre, Ontario, Janet Barker THURN (Greg) of Calgary, Alberta, Lori PAVELY, (Ken) of Leaskdale, Ontario,, Lesley BARKER- THOMAS (Acheson) of Oakville, Ontario, Jonathan BARKER (Alexandra) of London, Ontario; and 11 great-grandchildren. Dorothy was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, March 22, 1901. She emigrated to Canada when she was six years old and settled in Calgary, Alberta. In 1921 she married Frank BARKER following his service during World War I and post war assignment in Siberia. Following the death of her first husband in 1941, she went to work with the Young Women's Christian Association in the war services branch. Her duties included providing home comfort support to young Commonwealth Air Training Plan aircrew in Aylmer, Ontario. Later, with her mother, she was posted to Ottawa to work with Royal Canadian Women's Naval personnel in a similar capacity. When the war ended, she resumed her writing career and worked as a correspondent for the Toronto Globe and Mail. She joined the Aurora Banner as an editor and later became publisher. During that period in her life she won several National Newspaper awards presented by both the Ontario Weekly Newspaper Association and the Canadian Weekly Newspaper Association. Her proudest moment was winning best editorial page in her class awarded by the Canadian Weekly Newspaper Association in 1958. Dorothy left the newspaper business to write a weekly column for the Canadian National Railway for whom she travelled to various parts of Canada to report interesting stories of the country and its people. The weekly column, Diary of a Vagabond was carried in Canadian community newspapers. In 1970, she moved to South Natick, Massachusetts where she wed Wendell GRAY/GREY. Following Mr. GRAY/GREY's passing in 1979, she moved briefly back to Canada before marrying Boyd FITZPATRICK of Olean, New York in 1980. Mr. FITZPATRICK was publisher of the Olean Times Herald. Age 96, she wrote, in longhand, her life story, Sometimes there was an angel on my shoulder. The book traced her life experiences and was edited by her son, Gerry and his wife Barbara. It was her wish that her body be donated to the University of Florida Medical School for medical research. Maybe they will discover why I lived so long, and that will help other people in the future she said following her decision. A remembrance of her life will be held in Toronto in the spring of 2003.
