KIMEWON, a resident of the Wikwemikong Nursing Home passed
away at the Manitoulin Health Centre, Little Current, on Monday,
January 22, 2001 at the age of 84 years. Wilfred was born in
Wikwemikong,
son of the late Moses and Julia
{CORBIERE}
KIMEWON (both
predeceased.) He served in the Forestry Corps, during World War II
and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 177 Little Current.
Wilfred was a member of the Catholic Church and enjoyed cooking and
cards, but his family was also very important to him.
Beloved husband for the past 55 years of Angeline

Wikwemikong. Dear father of Leonard and wife Elizabeth of Lansing,
Marjorie of Toronto, Howard of Lansing, Beulah of Sudbury, Bonita and

NEWMAN of Toronto, Eugene of Orillia
and Wanda of Wikwemikong. Predeceased by one daughter Elaine. Dear
brother of Geraldine and husband Steve of Newberry. Predeceased by
three brothers Preston, Jack, Albert and three sisters Angeline,
Daisy and Georgina. Dear grandfather of 31 grandchildren and 25 great
grandchildren. Predeceased by two great grandchildren, Joanne and
Justin. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral mass was held on Thursday, January 25, 2001, from Holy Cross
Church. Internment in the Churchyard Cemetery.

Norman J. McLEOD, a resident of the Wikwemikong Nursing Home died at the
Manitoulin Health Centre, Little Current on Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at the
age of 75 years. He was born in Edmonton, Alberta,
son of the late Reverend

Norman is a veteran of World
War II, serving in the Infantry and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Norman worked at the Experimental Farm in Ottawa, then moved to Sudbury and
relocated to Manitowaning, operating John's Drive-in Restaurant for a few
years. Norm enjoyed classical music, collecting model cars and tinkering
with electronics and small appliances.

his children Grant and wife Connie of Chiliwack, B.C. and Nancy and husband
Kevin of Canmore, Alberta, and sister Meriam
BELWAY of Sudbury. Dear

survived by nieces and nephews.
At Norman's request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service was
held on Saturday, May 5, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Manitowaning Chapel Funeral
Home, Manitowaning. A Legion Service was held prior to the memorial service.

Kay NEWTON, a resident of the Manitoulin Lodge, Gore Bay, died at the
Mindemoya Hospital on Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at the age of 92 years. She
was born at Wheaton, Illinois, daughter of the late Edward and Myrtle
{SMITH}
WINTERS.
When
Kay was 9 years old, she moved with her family to
Saskatchewan, where they homesteaded. She had worked as a dietician at
Winnipeg
General
Hospital. After her marriage to Kenneth
NEWTON, they moved
to Kitchener, where they both worked for B.F. Goodrich, during the war. Kay
had worked as a cook at many tourist camps in the north, and
at Marv WOODS
Restaurant in Gore Bay. She enjoyed cooking, her garden and flowers. She was
the last surviving member of her family, having been predeceased by her
sister Margaret
HANLIN and brother Milford
WINTERS.
Loving mother of Ken and
his wife Marion
NEWTON of Toronto and also survived by Greg
BATMAN, who was
Kay's right hand man for many years.
Funeral service was conducted in the William G. Turner Chapel on Thursday,
April 12, 2001 with Reverend Frank Haner officiating.
Interment in Gordon Cemetery.
