Eleanor KINGSBOROUGH
BAXTER
Eleanor Kingsborough
BAXTER
(Retired nurse Hospital for Sick Children.)
Peacefully after a brief illness at the Sunnybrook Hospital on Saturday,
April 14th, 2001. Eleanor, beloved daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George
BAXTER, (Little Current, Manitoulin Island). Dear sister of Mary (Edmonton),
and the late Ruth
CALDWELL
(Bracebridge,
Ontario.)
Granddaughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. John G.
KINGSBOROUGH (Manitoulin Island). Special aunt of Jim
CALDWELL and the late Gordon
CALDWELL, great aunt of Alan and Paul
CALDWELL
(Toronto).
Eleanor came to Toronto from Little Current in 1930, to study nursing at the
Hospital for Sick Children. She will be remembered for her dedication to her
nursing profession, working at Hospital for Sick Children for most of her
nursing career, beginning in 1933, with the exception of a two year period
spent at the Children's Hospital on Vancouver Island. While at Hospital for
Sick Children, she was head nurse in the Out Patient Department, Director at
the Thistletown Branch of the Hospital. In her later years, she was in the
Nursing Administration Office. Many lifelong Friendships were established
here.
In her quiet way, she was steadfast and loyal, a person with many interests,
an avid collector, always ready to share her knowledge. She enjoyed
travelling, especially to Stockholm and Baffin Island.
"A gentle, but strong person. Asking very little, giving abundantly of
herself."
A service of remembrance was held on Saturday, April 21 in the chapel at
Central Park Lodge in Toronto. Eleanor was a resident there for the past few
years. Interment will take place at a later date in a family plot, Little
Current, Manitoulin Island.

-In loving memory of my dear wife, Vera, who left us May 4, 1999:
The depths of sorrow I cannot tell,
Of the loss of one I loved so well,
And while she sleeps a peaceful sleep,
Her memory I shall always keep.
