In loving memory of Gladys Mae WHEELAND, September 27, 1914 to November 27 2000, who passed away in Munroe, Ohio at the age of 86 years.
Beloved wife of the late Hoyt WHEELAND (predeceased 1999.)
Loving mother of daughter Beth DITMYER of Ohio and son Dr. Hoyt A. WHEELAND, and wife Joan, of Virginia.
Gladys was born on September 27, 1914 in Crothersville, Indiana, daughter of Fred and Pearl LAMBERT. She and her husband Hoyt had started coming to the Island in the early 1960s and had stayed at the Red Lodge where their daughter Beth met and married the owner's son Joe DITMYER. In the early 1970s the WHEELANDs built their own home across the lake in the Cosby Subdivision of Rockville. Their daughter Beth and husband Joe still have a cottage in the Cosby Subdivision.
Gladys will be remembered for being active in the Rockville Community. She belonged to the Women's Institute and both she and her husband Hoyt were members of the Green Bay United Church of Canada. Gladys and Hoyt recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a celebration held at the Little Current Legion, Branch 177 where 200 guests were in attendance. Gladys loved coming to the Manitoulin where she enjoyed spending time in her flower gardens. Survived by one brother Jay LAMBERT. Predeceased by two sisters Edna POMINA and Frances HARTIGAN. Also predeceased by two grandchildren. Will be missed by four grandchildren: Stacey HEUTHER, Gretchen PIERCE, and Andy and Sarah DITMYER and four great grandchildren. Donations to the Green Bay United Church would be greatly appreciated.
