BLACK: response
There are gravestones in the Old Protestant Cemetery, Brockville for James BLACK , James SABINE, and his wife Susannah:
James BLACK Esq died 15th April 1845 aged 77 yrs,
James SABINE, slept in Jesus 2 March 1858 aged 69 yrs,
Susannah SABINE entered into life 2 Dec 1881 aged 84 yrs.
A notice in the Brockville Recorder on the 8th of Dec 1881:
"Deaths. At Montreal on Friday the 2nd December, Mrs. Susannah BLACK,
widow of the late James SABINE Esq."
The Wentworth co Mar Reg p81 has the marriage of John Aston WILKES of Detroit to Alice TRUMAN SABINE 25 of Hamilton, born Canada, dtr of Jas SABINE and Susannah BLACK, on 26 Mar 1862.
Although the query does not give James BLACK a daughter named Susannah, it would seem quite logical that James may have been visiting or residing with a daughter when he died at Brockville in 1845. Of possible interest is a notation in the Court of Probate where it seems that Susannah wants the will of her late husband James SABINE settled without delay, so that she can apply to England for a pension from the East India Company.

SCHMUCK name_game@ca.on.ogs.families 2001-02 published
KNIGHT: (response)
Can there have been two couples named Thomas and Julia KNIGHT residing in the township of South Dumfries?
There are gravestones for such a couple in the Maus or Paris Plains Cemetery, but they seem to be older than the couple mentioned in the query:
Thomas KNIGHT died 20 Oct 1863 aged 49 yrs
Julia Ann wife of Thomas McKNIGHT died 21 Oct 1866 aged 66 yrs 4 dys.
It is difficult to reconcile these gravestones with the couple mentioned in the query, in spite of the names and place.
However in the Brant County Marrriage Register page 211 there is likely a second marriage for the Julia of the query:
22 Sep 1868 William McCORMICK 56 of Drumbo married Julia KNIGHT 37 of South Dumfries, born Hamilton, dtr of William and Ann SMOKE, Alfred KNIGHT, witness.
The index to the 1871 census for Blenheim twp Oxford co shows Julia McCORMICK 41, perhaps widowed for a second time.
The details of her first marriage are found on p75 in the Gore District Marriage Register:
Thomas KNIGHT and Judy SMOKE married 9 Dec 1847 by Rev. James VINCENT,
Congregational minister, witnesses Jacob C. CRANE and Charlotte POWERS.
Also in the Maus Cemetery are gravestones for William SMUCK 1804-1868 and his wife Ann SWARTS c1794-1863, presumably the parents of Julis.
SMUCK, from the German SCHMUCK, was often "Anglicized" into SMOKE.

This is in answer to the part of the query re availability of school records it does not matter what school she went to, as
"unfortunately, there are few actual lists of pupils or students at the Archives of Ontario, and those that do exist fall mostly within the 100-year privacy restriction." Merriman: Genealogy in Ontario: Searching the Records.
School boards also have restrictions on what can be seen, on any records they may have in their archives.

BARRETT : SHEEHY : FINN : LAVELLE : response
One of the marriages requested is found on p75 vol2 of the Ontario County Marriage Register: Timothy FINN, 23 of Whitby, born Ire,
son of Dan'l FINN and Mary CONDON
and Mary LAVELLE of Whitby, born Ire, dau/o John LAVELLE and Mary McDERMOTT
where married 8 Jan 1866 by Ref John G. Shea of Oshawa RC, wit: Jan DOLAN and Bridget STEPHEN, both of Whitby.
From the same source, vol1, p116 comes the marriage on 9 Jan 1860
of William FINN of Pickering born in Co Cork Ire,
son of David FINN and Mary CANDON.
These two grooms are obviously brothers, sons of a man named either David
or Daniel, depending on which record is correct.
The marriage registers are two copyings removed from the original church record, accounting for the discrepancy.
If the LAVELLE family is of interest, there is a gravestone in St. Andrew's
RC Cemetery in Brechin, Mara twp Ontario co for
John LAVELLE c1811-1897 and his wife Mary McDERMOTT c1806-1890.
Also on the stone is John LAVELLE c1840-1898, native of Co Mayo Ireland.

HAINES : response
Marriages for at least 2 and possibly 3 children of James and Joan HAINES are found
in the published marriage records of Grey County. Vital Stats Marriages vol 5 p77: George
HAINES 27 of Meaford born Canada son of James and Jean married 15 Oct 1870 Martha
SMITH at Meaford. Vol 21 p 107: Robert HAINES 24 of Meaford, born Toronto, son of James

Register p115: James P. HAINES 23 of Meaford born Canada son of James and "Ruby" married
17 Jul 1865 Mary J. CARNAHAN. Given the fact that these records are copies of copies of the
original records, is "Ruby" a corruption of "McRoby" which the query says is the surname of
Mrs James HAINES? There is a gravestone in Lakeview Cemetery, Meaford: HAINES: George

Jane KELLOW 1831-1897, wife of John WEBBER 1827-1904, also Elizabeth KELLOW 1826-1886, wife of Thomas JEFFERY.
Both Kellow ladies are stated to be natives of Cornwall, while John WEBBER was from Devonshire.
The index to the 1871 census for York County shows John WEBBER as a hotelkeeper in Markham twp.
There is no entry for Moses SMITH KELLOW in the index for Toronto city, showing that he was not there by 1871.
