James SMITH, innkeeper of Toronto, had his bio included in
C. Blackett Robinson's History of Toronto and County of York,
Ontario (1885)
Briefly it states that he was born in Co Cavan Ire, 1820,
em to Canada at age 18, spent 14 yrs steamboating, then ran the
restaurant at Union Station for 21 yrs, retiring in 1879,
had 5 ch by 1st wf (3 died young) and 9 ch by 2nd wf,
5 still living in 1885.

maiden name as WITHERAL, not SPRINGSTEEN:
Elgin Co Mar Register, vol 2 page 41:
Charles SPOHN, 23 of Saint Thomas, born Canada,
son of Peter L. SPOHN and Delia WITHERAL
married on 24 Jan 1866 to Selina COLE age 23 of Saint Thomas, born England,
dtr of Samuel COLE and Mary ROCKEY.
They were married by Rev. Geo. CUTHBERTSON of Saint Thomas, Presbyterian,
with Robert CARRIE of Saint Thomas as witness.
The same mar reg shows the 1865 marriage of Wesley SPOHN of Ancaster
(son of Philip) to Eliza GRIFFIN of Sparta, so there was certainly some
movement of the SPOHN family back and forth between the Ancaster and
Saint Thomas areas.

Corry COULSON d 17 Feb 1848 aged 66y.
Also his adopted dtr Martha COULSON died 4 Oct 1847 age 22 yrs.
From an obit in the Toronto Globe, 23 Feb 1848:
At his residence, Berkeley Street, Toronto, on Thursday, 17th inst.,
at an advanced age, Corry COULSON.
He was a native of Ireland, a connection of the family of COULSON of
County Fermanagh, and emigrated to Canada about 30 years ago,
settling in Toronto.
Will of Corry COULSON is found in the Home District Surrogate Court and
names: wife Elizabeth COULSON alias GRIFFIN and his son and dtr Robert
and Mary Jane, sister Irvine DARLING and her dtr Mary Jane WAINWRIGHT,
brothers Christopher and Joseph and their sons named Corry, as well as 2
natural (meaning illegitimate) children by Catharine MacLGUN?, John and Mary.

There is a marriage record for this family that give Adelia SPOHN's
maiden name as WITHERAL, not SPRINGSTEEN:
Elgin Co Mar Register, vol 2 page 41:
Charles SPOHN, 23 of Saint Thomas, born Canada,
son of Peter L. SPOHN and Delia WITHERAL
married on 24 Jan 1866 to Selina COLE age 23 of Saint Thomas, born England,
dtr of Samuel COLE and Mary ROCKEY.
They were married by Rev. Geo. CUTHBERTSON of Saint Thomas, Presbyterian,
with Robert CARRIE of Saint Thomas as witness.
The same mar reg shows the 1865 marriage of Wesley SPOHN of Ancaster
(son of Philip) to Eliza GRIFFIN of Sparta, so there was certainly some
movement of the SPOHN family back and forth between the Ancaster and
Saint Thomas areas.
