BEDOYA, both 40 and in the financial-services
industry, were well prepared for their first-born. Only a few
months earlier, they had completed renovations to add a second
floor to their Beaches bungalow and create a baby room complete
with a skylight. The room quickly filled up with gifts from several
baby showers and, as the February 20 due date approached, the
expectant parents received many phone calls from anxious family
and Friends waiting for the new arrival.
But the date came and went with Ms.
BEDOYA sitting at home for
what doctors said would come "any day now," It wasn't until 10: 35
p.m. on March 3, however, that Sofia Maria Isabella
BEDOYA made
her appearance - and not without some resistance.
She was born after an intense 42½ hours of labour that included
several trips back and forth to the hospital, and was finally
delivered by cesarean section, weighing nine pounds, four ounces.
