Misconceptions.
Confident that deep breathing, visualization and the pain-easing
waters of Toronto East General Hospital's whirlpool would facilitate
their blessed event, a three-day birthing adventure was not what
they envisioned.
"I had an idealistic image of how it was going to go," says Ms.
VITELLO, a 31-year-old magazine editor. But after two excruciating
days of labour, she thought to herself: "I guess my body wasn't
as Mother Earth as I thought, and I was more than happy to have
an epidural and succumb to modern medication."
Mr. HARDING, a 34-year-old television editor and owner of Axon
Pictures, fainted during the final moments of the ordeal, but
recovered in time to see his son, six-pound, eight-ounce Fionn
Joseph Jason
HARDING, emerge from a four-hour pushing marathon
on March 2 with only a broken clavicle. Fionn's trauma behind
them, the Leslieville couple wouldn't edit a frame. "He's the
most perfect thing we've ever done," Mr.
HARDING says.

"I always knew it would be a lot of work. I didn't realize I'd
have no life, though," she added. "But it's joyous. I know why
they make babies so cute -- otherwise you couldn't stand it."
In the rare moments they've been able to snatch since their son
was born, Ms.
