Michelle ZORN's natural-birthing stratagem was usurped at 1 a.m. on March 6 by the jolt of severe contractions and accompanying back pains, dictating a post-haste trip to Mount Sinai Hospital and the relief of an epidural. "I'll never forget my midwife pushing me, in a wheelchair, toward the elevator. I had a contraction, started screaming…. No need to tell the security guard what button to push," she recalls.
Nine hours later, Leora Belle arrived, weighing 7 pounds 11 ounces. Ms. ZORN, 32, is a national corporate account manager for a worldwide IT company. Her husband, James, 31, started James Perly Consulting after the sale of the family business, Perly's Maps.
In ancient Hebrew, Leora means light, symbolizing what this first child has brought into her parents' lives. Belle pays homage to paternal great-grandmother Belle PERLY, a taproot in Perly's Maps six decades ago. Baby Leora Belle will have the opportunity to emulate earlier family accomplishments, with two great-grandmothers, aged 90 and 92, still on hand.
