England, 03/03/03, one of nine siblings. She emigrated to Canada
in 1920 with her husband William Walter

since deceased. She has two sons, five grandchildren, and five
great-grandchildren. Before her eyesight deteriorated Lucy was
very active, arranging bus tours and as a prolific dressmaker
and knitter, supplying hundreds of baby clothes to charities.
Lucy cherishes her independence and still lives in her own apartment,
going for a walk every day, weather permitting.

Rachel CRAIG is a lawyer who likes big challenges.
And what greater challenge can there be than giving birth to
your first child? Especially if that child likes a challenge
just as much as her mom.
With only two weeks to go, Ms.
CRAIG, 30, was told by her doctor
that her daughter would breech if a natural birth was attempted.
A cesarean section was recommended instead. So Ms.
CRAIG tried
everything she could think of to turn the baby around.
From standing on her head to burning special herbs around her
feet, having acupuncture, visiting a chiropractor, even having
her husband, Marc
NOUWENS, 30, try to coax the baby into changing
position, nothing seemed to work.
"She was certainly determined," Ms.

CRAIG agreed
to the cesarean, and
on February 14, 2006, coincidentally her
mother's birthday, Maike Ceanna Hepburn
NOUWENS was born.
The new parents have agreed to give Maike a few years as the
baby in the family, but already Ms.
CRAIG says she's definitely
up for another chance to give birth naturally -- and in her own
home next time.
