Owen DOHERTY, seven hours old, rests in his father's arms, sometimes
opening a tiny eye to get a peek at his new world.

DOHERTY is calm, collected and enchanted by little
Owen, born yesterday at 6: 03 a.m. -- just one day after his dad's
29th birthday and one day before Father's Day -- to Jeff and
his wife Tanya, 27.
It's the best Father's Day present
DOHERTY can think of.
"I feel great. I'm so excited," said Jeff.
"He's being so good," he said of his son, gently holding him
at St. Joseph's Health Care in London.
"Hey, Owen, can you be this good for the next 18 years, huh?"
DOHERTY asks his family's newest addition.
The couple, married for almost four years, were eager for kids.
They got help from a fertility clinic and couldn't wait for their
baby to be born.
But Owen, due last Monday, took his time, delaying his arrival
in the world by almost a week.
Two days ago, the couple did some walking to try to give Owen
a little bit of a push. Doctors were going to induce labour if
Owen stubbornly delayed his grand entrance.
Late Friday night, the couple drove to St. Joe's when Tanya started
having contractions.
"Everything's been ready for weeks," Jeff said. "My wife's a
planner. Everything's been organized."
Half an hour of pushing and Owen was born. He weighed in at nine
pounds, 12 ounces, and is 21 inches long.
"Tanya did so well. She did such a good job," Jeff said, handling
his son like an old pro and beaming at his wife.
"He looks comfy in your arms," Tanya told the new dad as he kissed
his son.
Owen is the first grandchild for both sets of grandparents, who
are coming to see him today.
The two families have known each other for years. Both grandmas
worked at London Life and Jeff and Tanya grew up going to the
same day camps and playing together.
"We were just saying the other day, when we were 10, did we ever
think we'd be married and having a baby?" said Tanya, a Grade
7 teacher at St. Michael's Catholic school in London.
She's already bought Jeff a Father's Day gift she'll give him
today.
"I got it early because I knew he'd be a dad and this is his
first father's day," she said. "But he got his gift early when
Owen came."
