After his second child was born, one of architect Michael
BOXER's
colleagues offered some words of advice. "Before he even congratulated
me, he said, 'I have the name of a doctor. What you do now is
get yourself fixed, because three can easily become four,' "
Mr. BOXER recalls. Indeed, at his colleague's previous firm,
two other architects had ended up with third-pregnancy twins.
"Just imagine," Mr.
BOXER, 36, said when telling the anecdote
to his wife, Liane
DOWNS, 35. So perhaps they shouldn't have
been so surprised when Ms.
DOWNS, a social worker, became pregnant
last summer -- with twins, of course. Mr.
BOXER knew even before
he opened the envelope of ultrasound photos. "Liane just laughed,"
he says.
Kate and Sam arrived on March 20 at 9: 15 p.m. and 9:19 p.m.,
weighing 6 pounds, 2 ounces, and 6 pounds, 9 ounces, respectively.
"He's a gentleman, so he let her go first," Mr.
BOXER says.
Sister Sophie, who just turned 5, is delighted, whereas brother
Matthew, 21 months, seems a little less sure about the recent
turn of events. Ms.

of one thing: "This is it," says the new mother of four, whom
her husband describes as a "pro" at having babies. "I'm retiring."

of "concerted pushing," according to her father, Kristian

Tiny Titan goddess Phoibe made her entrance February 10, 2006,
at 8 pounds 10 ounces, and 22 inches unfurled -- which was not
surprising, since Dad and her uncles tower around 6-foot-5.
Ms. SZABO, 33, a mezzo-soprano, will be singing in the Easter
presentation of Bach's St. Matthew Passion at the Brooklyn Academy
of Music and is soon to begin rehearsals for the inaugural presentation
of the Ring cycle at the new Four Seasons Centre for the Performing
Arts.
