MASON
Roger
Burford born 1943-11-19 died 1998-10-04
For us at Kerrwil Publications, last month, a light went out.
Roger Burford
MASON, the editor of Electrical Business for the last four
years, passed away after a short yet agonizing struggle with cancer.
Roger wrote copiously about and for the electrical industry, but you may not
have known that he was also the author of many books.
The Beaver Picture and
Telling the Bees were but two of
this born story-teller's many memorable collections. He often wrote of
his travels, much the way one would capture a holiday in photographs.
Who could forget his article "Worms" in a cottagers' magazine,
a tale told with an avid fisherman's exquisite pleasure in angling and,
perhaps, a delightful touch of the expected hyperbole? Books, articles,
fiction and non-fiction - words were Roger's tools, his first love, and
he crafted them with the care of a true professional.
Roger, our colleague and comrade for too short a time, was a friend to all.
He thrived on his newly developed Friendships in the electrical industry,
and found comfort in his role here. In a short period of time, he touched
the industry and, in turn, the industry affected him profoundly. Even as
the industry takes pride in the services it delivers, so did Roger in his
work. We won't forget his personable warmth, his delight in the absurd,
and his infectious laughter. Roger made our working days here at Kerrwil
brighter. We depended on Roger, just as we depend on electricity.
That light is gone forever, the power stays on.
