Houston Lecture: J. Brian Gilchrist

The countdown is on for Conference 2011. Our Golden Anniversary Conference will take place May 13 – 15 at the Hamilton Convention Centre in Hamilton Ontario. On top of being a gala celebration of 50 years of the Ontario Genealogical Society, this conference is proud to feature 21 expert genealogical speakers.

Houston Lecture: J. Brian Gilchrist

Brian Gilchrist is one of Canada’s most knowledgable, informative and entertaining speakers on the subjects of genealogy, family history and heritage.

He is a fourth generation Torontonian and ninth generation Canadian being descended from families of English, Irish, Scottish, Germanic and American backgrounds.

With over forty years of genealogical research experience, he has been a member of the Ontario Genealogical Society since 1971 and he founded several of our Branches. He is also a member of the Ontario Historical Society; the Association of Canadian Archivists; a founding and charter member of the International Society for British Genealogy and Family History; a member of Salt Lake City’s Association of Professional Genealogists, a charter member of the Ontario chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists; a founder, charter member and director of the Board of The Friends of The Archives of Ontario; and the reference archivist at the Region of Peel archives in Brampton, Ontario.

Brian is the author of many publications including the nationally significant Genealogy and Local History to 1900 and Index to Canadian Parliamentary Divorces, 1867-1930. Brian is a popular guest on radio and TV shows, and he has spoken in several Canadian provinces, many states and has papers presented at various international symposiums.

We are delighted to have Brian join us as Houston Lecturer at our 50th Anniversary Conference.

He will address the history and future of genealogy (within OGS and beyond) as he sees it.

Brian will also share his expertise in the following sessions:
