FYI: Upcoming Heritage Event: Film Screening of the Coffin Ship Hanna

The Coffin Ship Hannah is a documentary recounting the extraordinary tale of an Irish coffin ship, the Hannah. In 1849, while carrying Irish immigrants fleeing to Canada from Ireland’s potato famine, the Hannah struck ice off the coast of Newfoundland. The film combines dramatic re-creations of the shipwreck and the heroic survival of some of the passengers, with powerful documentary scenes involving descendants of the passengers and historians’ testimonies. The film was produced in 2011 by Galafilm, in association with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and Radio-Canada.
