FYI: Canadian Army Overseas Honours and Awards (1935-1945) Scanned Images

Do you have any WWII veterans in your family tree? Did you know that the Directorate of History and Heritage has a database of scanned images of Canadian Army Overseas Honours and Awards for WWII?

To give you an idea of what these images look like, and the information they contain, here is a link to the scanned image we found for a Major Edward Marshall Smith, who received a Distinguished Service Order (DSO) in 1944:

Even if you do not have a WWII vet in your family tree, this is still a treasure trove of Canadian History well worth your time in exploring.

Speaker: Heather Oakley

Brief Overview: “Proof is a fundamental concept in genealogy. In order to merit confidence, each conclusion about an ancestor must have sufficient credibility to be accepted as “proved.”” (Board for Certification of Genealogists). In this presentation, Heather will describe the five elements of the GPS and will explain how to use the standard to come to credible conclusions.

OGS Applauds Huronia Regional Centre Cemetery Settlement

OGS Secretary, Bob Crawford, on behalf of the Society, penned a letter applauding the recent settlement concerning the Huronia Regional Centre, where the Ontario Government promised to maintain the cemetery attached to the Centre and create a registry of those who are buried there.
