FYI: Upcoming Festive Heritage Event: Corktown Christmas Forest

Enjoy some festive family fun at the Enoch Turner Schoolhouse “Corktown Christmas Forest!”

Wander through the “Forest”- located in the West Hall – where you will discover Christmas trees decorated in hand-made Victorian ornaments. Each tree will be sponsored by a local business or group, and donated to the Salvation Army Local 614 of Regent Park following the event.

The schedule will include:

· 12 p.m. Reading of “The Steadfast Tin Soldier” by our own ballerina – Katherine Belrose!

· 1 p.m. Performance by members of the Corktown Chamber Orchestra

· 2 p.m. Reading of “A Visit from St. Nicholas” by Stuart Hughes of Soulpepper Theatre Company

· 3 p.m. Performance by the St. Paul’s Toronto School of Irish Music

· 4 p.m. Reading of “The Steadfast Tin Soldier”

· All day: Victorian ornament-making demonstrations: try your hand at scrapwork balls, paper fans, cornucopias, sugar plums, stars and pomanders! Cider, coffee, tea and treats for all, and cupcakes baked by Pretty & Sweet will be on offer. Tours of the Schoolhouse will be available all day.

Admission to this event is free for children 10 and under and pay-what-you-can for adults - recommended donation is $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors.

Here are 3 more festive heritage events happening around the province in the next few weeks.  Sainte-Marie among the Hurons in Midland will be holding the unique 17th century holiday celebration, First Light:

“The magic begins when visitors approach the candlelit historic site, as a beautiful amber glow illuminates the famous 17th-century mission. A colourful historic encampment will greet visitors, set up by the popular “Survival In The Bush” group. Visitors can then stroll the candlelit paths which lead to a variety of fun family activities. “

Cost: Admission is just $8.00 per person (children 5 and under are free), with a non-perishable food item that will be donated to the local food bank.

Special Notes: Please be advised that with the exception of service animals, family pets are NOT allowed on the historic site for this event. Overflow parking will be available at Doral Industries, 100 Wye Valley Road. Free shuttle buses will run to Sainte-Marie throughout each evening.

On the weekend of December 1st, Perth will be holding its 7th annual Heritage Perth Christmas House Tour.

“The women of CFUW Perth and District invite you to tour some of Perth’s most unique homes and help us raise funds to support higher education for women and young girls, local libraries and childrens’ reading programs.”

Tickets, in the form of a brochure illustrating the homes and their history, are available November 1st.
