Overview: Kyle J. Betit BS (Biology) is a professional genealogist, lecturer and author residing in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a co-editor of the popular journal The Irish At Home and Abroad, and is co-author of A Genealogist’s Guide to Discovering Your Irish Ancestors. He is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), the National Genealogical Society (NGS), the National Writer’s Union, and the Genealogical Speakers Guild.

A Journalist at the East York Observer is seeking help from the Ontario Genealogical Society on a story for their upcoming Remembrance Day edition.
They are looking for an East York community member who has traced their ancestry to a soldier or family member who participated in the war of 1812, and would be willing to be interviewed.

You do not have to be a member of the Ontario Genealogical Society to do this. The only criteria, as stipulated by the paper, is that you be a member of the East York community.

The Vankleek Hill Family History Weekend is taking place this Saturday, October 27th through to Sunday the 28th. The Ottawa Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society will be in attendance with some OGS publications and maybe an answer or two for some of your genealogical queries. Other activities to choose from include:
Antiques Appraisal at St. John Anglican Church Hall.Â
- Two Sessions:
- Morning 10:00 am – Noon
- Afternoon, 1:00pm – 3:00pm
- Appraiser: Janet Carlile, an independent, Sotheby’s-accredited antiques appraiser, best known for her tours with the Canadian Antiques Roadshow
- Pricing: As a fundraiser in support of the Vankleek Hill Museum, $10 per item for a maximum of 3 items per person. With three items you get free entry to Sunday’s paper conservation workshop!

Paper & Photo Preservation Workshop
- Date: Sunday, October 28, 2012
- Time:Â 1 :30 p.m.
- Location: Vankleek Hill Community Centre
- Pricing: For $10, bring your paper-based treasures to learn more about care, keeping and preservation methods.Â
- Overview: Kyla Ubbink, an accredited and certified conservator who has helped restore art by Picasso and Warhol, will be at the Community Centre. This is a 90-minute workshop presentation on how to preserve your photos, albums, scrapbooks for future generations. It finishes with a question period.
