When you become a member of The Ontario Genealogical Society, you become part of a very large group of individuals and organizations who are researching their own family history and also working to help preserve and expand family history resources for future generations.

OGS Membership CardMembership supports OGS's research and database creation and its advocacy in support of issues such as the closure of old cemeteries and the ongoing release of census data.

As an OGS member, you:

  • receive subscriptions to the quarterly journal Families and quarterly newsletter Newsleaf.
  • receive flyers describing publications and supplies available for purchase from OGS
  • have the right to vote at the annual general meeting and regional meetings, the right to hold office and the right to join any branch or branches.
  • receive invitations to regional meetings and the annual Conference for further education in genealogical subjects and social contacts with other genealogists.
  • can participate in genealogical research projects specific to Ontario.
  • get a membership card which can be used as a passport to resources in the OGS Members Only section.
  • receive a discount on the annual Conference registration fees.
  • can take advantage of OGS group rates for home/automobile insurance and out-of-province/out-of-Canada emergency insurance (MEDOC®) with Johnson Insurance Inc. and the Scholarship and Academic Grant Program for participating members (more information).
  • can buy clothing with the OGS logo at Marks WorkWarehouse.
In the OGS Members Only section, you can: update your Membership Information, change your Password, review Families back issues, (This is an ongoing project. 1962-1968 are currently available, and we will be adding years on a weekly basis, starting mid-February.), and gain access to restricted online databases and documents.

Types of Membership:

Individual ($60.00)

This membership provides you with all the benefits of the Society.

Family
($7.00 per person)
This membership can be added on to an Individual membership for people at the same address. Only one copy of mailings is sent to the Family; otherwise Family members have the same privileges as Individual members. If the application includes Family members, all Branch applications are at the Family rate and all members of the family become members of the Branch.

Student
($25.00)
A person who can demonstrate full-time enrolment in an elementary, secondary or post secondary institution.  Student members do not have a vote and cannot stand for election but otherwise have all benefits.

Institutional ($60.00)
Institutions (libraries, archives) and corporations.  Institutional members do not have a vote and cannot stand for election.
