A local, family-run, bus company - DURHAMWAY- will run a handi-bus shuttle service on Saturday and Sunday during the main people moving hours of the conference. MORE…

Note: Durhamway is also running the banquet shuttle for those who purchased bus tickets.

Online registration ends May 17! Don’t delay!

At the end of the day on May 17, the online registration will be taken down. At that point, the OGS Conference committee will be letting the caterers and banquet hall know the amount of food to order. We’ll reserve a few extra tickets, but the number will definitely be limited. Between May 18 and 24, registrations will be taken by phone, and the office staff will be able to tell you whether there are any food or banquet tickets left.

After May 24, no new advance registrations will be accepted. Those who aren’t able to plan ahead can still register for the Saturday and Sunday lectures upon arrival at the conference, but will find most of the Friday events sold out, and should be prepared to make other arrangements for food in case there are no tickets left.

Free access to online databases at OGS Conference 2013

Three online organizations have agreed to allow OGS Conference registrants to access their databases free of charge in the Research Room during the conference.

The Research Room will be open during all three days of the conference. The hours are yet to be determined because they depend on volunteer hosts, but will be posted as soon as we know.

Repeat of the Workshop by Richard Doherty

Because of high demand, Dick Doherty has agreed to present his workshop, ”The Scots-Irish: Origins, Emigration, Religion, and Research Sources”, a second time on Friday moring, 9:30 – 12:00. The news session will be designated as A-5. The session description for session H2 has been changed. Please take this into account when choosing your session for the 10:45 time slot. Here’s the new session description:

H2: Searching Ukrainian and Croatian genealogical records

SUMMARY: An overview of the unique scripts used for Ukrainian and
Croatian records. The three alphabets used in these Slavic nations are the
Roman, Cyrillic and Glagolithic. Discover where these scripts are used and
how they are crucial to understanding Slavic genealogical records. A
summary is presented of the historical develops in the Austro-Hungarian
Empire and the immigration for Ukrainian-Canadians and Croatian-Canadians.

All those with an interest in Scottish genealogy are invited to attend the Scottish Special Interest Group’s breakfast and get acquainted gathering, 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. on Sunday morning before the first session. If you would like to eat while you are there, be sure to choose “Scottish Breakfast” when you are selecting food on the Conference registration form. This is a hearty breakfast. Here’s the menu:
